I live in lily-white Douglas County, and there are two inter-racial couples living on my street along with their children. I've never even seen a raised eyebrow, much less out-right bigotry.

Good luck on your move! Welcome to Colorado.

Question Asian-American

These replies are really helpful, but how about for Asian-Americans? I am Vietnamese and my husband is Caucasian. We are wondering if our kids would be accepted in school. Any info on Asian community there is greatly appreciated, b/c we are looking forward to moving there. Thank you

Again I would have to go with the DTC/Aurora areas on this one too. Much larger Asian presence here than any place else in the metro. The largest single complex of Asian stores is located on S. Federal Blvd. but it is located near the worst neighborhood in Denver IMO, 1st & Federal. Extremely poor area, high crime. Havana St in Aurora is dotted with Asian strip malls. To me Aurora seems so much more ethnically diverse than central Denver did. Here's a breakdown of Denver city in a nutshell: West Denver, mostly Latino. East Denver, mostly African American. North Denver, mostly Latino. Central Denver, mostly Caucasian. South Denver, very diverse no obvious ethnic majority. Aurora and SE Denver merge together and that is where you will see the most diversity.

I had a chance to fully read all the responses today and I want to personally thank the people who came to my defense. I am surprised that people are "surprised" that there are some people still out there who hate seeing black/white walking together, let alone cuddled up. It makes me think either the commentors havent been in an interracial relationship (black/white) or their shock that I would ask a real life question is out of their own personal guilt. My opinion. Again, I wanna thank all the strangers who gave me darn good advice and also came to my defense!!!

I've never experienced any problems, and I'm white, my partner is black, and our children are bi-racial. In our neighborhodd, there are other black/white couples, Asian/white, Asian/Hispanic, Hispanic/white, Indian/white - and many mixed race children. It's never been an issue for us and I never even think about it.

San Diego (and Cali in general) is live and let live, so I'd like to hear from people who know and can offer any first hand advice. Thanku.
Nope, we're probably more live and let live in social and political stance, California is more diverse but believe it or not has the highest number of hate crimes. Maybe not all towns but Aurora is a great place for interracial couples, I've seen a few, actually anywhere in Denver and suburbs are fine. Good luck!

Check this out: Table 12 - Hate Crime Statistics, 2006

Some things I thought about though --- Calif. is a ginormous state, so of course the numbers are high. Also look at the number of reporting agencies. Some states have 2 and some have 200. And what's with Michigan? It has an astonishing high level of hate crimes.
