TJ's is great and they lots og good priced items, coming from OC CA they are everywhere, but you can get most of what you are looking for in the variety of markets we have here in CO: Sunflower (which reminds me of Henry's Market in OC), Wild Oats (now becoming Whole Foods), Natural Grocers, etc. Besides, Sunflower in CO homegrown and I like to support CO businesses, I am a big believer is supporting local business, plus Sunflowers prices are great and they have good selection! Costco is another place where you can find amazing prices and quality that no one can touch if you find what you are looking for, very hit or miss, like a treasure hunt.
Regarding IKEA, they were planning on building one in Lone Tree in 2004 at the Ridgegate center right off of Lincoln and the 25, however, they got into a dispute over colors and Lone Tree ultimately rejected IKEA's bid. I know, sort of crazy, but that is what happened. Here is a link from the Denver business journal
Lone Tree snubs IKEA - Denver Business Journal:
Rumors are that IKEA is in negotiation with the City of Littleton with a targeted open date of 2010. This would be the only IKEA in over 500 miles and they have a captive audience in the Denver metro.
We shall see

How could Ikea open in SLC before Denver? Absolutely baffling. The front range of Colorado has far more people than the Wasatch front. There are several huge universities in greater Denver and northern Colorado, and college students always need cheap supplies.

The 3 retail stores Denver needs -
1. Fry's Electronics
2. Trader Joes
3. IKEA
Okay, and maybe In-and-Out Burger.... but doubt any of them will happen for a while.

My vote is for an IKEA... alas, I've heard that they had plans to come, but have permanently decided not to. so sad.

No great loss. It may look pretty, but their stuff is so poorly constructed.

I agree. I used to live in Champaign, IL, home of the original Steak N Shake.

I read that they chose SLC because it was within a certain radius of their distribution center in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, I believe). I think they chose their actual location there because of convenience to a freight depot since they ship goods by train. Denver is apparently out of range.
It's a bit disappointing, but on the other hand I wonder if it's not a blessing in disguise. A lot of nationwide chains of different sorts have actually gotten their start in Denver -- more so than our size would indicate. I wonder if it might have something to do with the fact that we don't always have competition from some of these national chains, so it leads to business opportunities for local companies to get a start here.

Hey I work for Trader Joes in California, and it is my understanding that there will be no Trader Joe's put in until Colorado allows liquor to be sold in grocery stores as a huge part of TJ sales is their wine. I am way bummed as I am moving to Denver in a couple weeks.

TJ's needs to come here. Tons of fans from elsewhere have moved here. TJ's has stores where they have no liquor license, so we take that rationale with a grain of salt. The 'story' that WE heard is that TJ's doesn't have a warehouse here, but I think that's a lame reason. We have great venue's for stores all over the Front Range, they SHOULD be here!
I've written TJ's many times, they never reply. Their expansion seems to be in dense coastal areas, so why is there ONE store in Sante Fe, NM, of all places. Tell your superiors they NEED to be here, NOW, the liquor can and will change in the future. We had a major "victory" of sorts this year by allowing liquor stores to be open on Sundays. Expect more change.
