My daughter just took a job in Lakewood and is looking to live there. Many of the apartments and their reviews/ratings online appear pretty sketchy. Looking for a safe/secure/well maintained apartment. Any thoughts?

I like lakewood and i think all tha apartments are nice and affordable. If your really worried try 2 stay away from tha Wads/Colfax Area.

Skewed mostly to the younger, mid 20s to mid 30s age group. Singles and young families. Not too many seniors. Lots of active people -- easy access to Bear Creek Lake Park literally outside the complex is a great draw. Not familiar with Horizons, so can't tell.

Are residents "socialable" here or do they keep to themselves? Is it "social central"?

Thanks to all for your input.
Retreat at Fox Hollow does seem appealing but then you read some of the reviews on the ratings page and it doesn't inspire complete confidence. I'm sure not every tenant is happy all the time and there may be bitter individuals, still for that amount of rent there should be fewer concerns with the facility. Having said that I do note that this complex is one of the highest rated in Lakewood. We'll see. Not familiar with Arvada. Will check it out. |

Really need to visit in person. It is impossible to get a sense of apartments online, good or bad. A place can look great online but be a dump in real life, and vice versa.
Management didn't seem as clueless as mentioned in some of the reviews. Some repairs took a bit of time to get looked at, but a second call to the office usually got quick attention. Never had any security problems or any feeling of insecurity. Being located a bit away from the main road (Kipling) almost near the end of the neighborhood helps. |

I can share my experience with trying to lease a place at The Retreat at Fox Hollow. It was my first choice to move to after a ton of on-line research. I called their leasing office numerous times asking specific info, looked at the website numerous times, as well. Told them we needed a 6 month lease & was told no problem, no problem. Called a few days before coming out to sign a lease to reconfirm all info given & to check availability. When my husband got there to sign a lease, suddenly the story changed. He was told they didn't do 6 month leases, only 12 month! even though we had called & checked on-line more than once, and gotten the info from more than one source.
He went back to the car and called the management 800 number and was told they could do a 9 month lease, but no less. A few other places we had called & researched said we could have our 2 small dogs there. When my husband arrived to check out the place & sign a lease, again, the story changed - they only take 1 dog, not 2. We ended up in a really nice, clean, new place in Arvada. Management didn't give us the runaround, never lied or mislead us, and are always professional & courteous. Complex is very nice and relatively quiet given it's size. We're very close to I-70/Lakewood area. So, bottom line, don't rely on what they tell you over the phone, or what's listed on a website. Have a few back-up places to visit, and be prepared for all/any info you might have been given over the phone or via website to change. Good luck! |
