I feel too old for Peace Corps. And I'm happily married, we are the kind of couple that like to do everything together. We love having the nice things the U.S. has to offer, but when we travel it's outside of the country. We've spent some time in Negril, and loved that area. I can't imagine cops pulling you over there at all, they are crazy drivers, worse than Mexico. We really want to get out more, but it's very hard leaving from Denver. It's just that much more expensive and longer connection-wise. Which is one of my top ten reasons for moving out of Colo. to Florida.

Vegas, thanks for your post. When this thread started really getting going, it was with my post trying to explain why people often bring up the subject when broaching Denver. Maybe they've heard things or just have some kind of misconception, but I do think that people are trying to ascertain just what kind of place Denver is, so that they don't end up miserable. And unfortunately, as it stands now in the U.S., race is very much an issue for many people.

I didn't think we spent the whole time talking about Miami, we talked a lot about Enigmakairos move to Colo. from the northeast, and also about this hiking group RG (?) wanted to do. We also talked a lot about Kool Kat's move here from Wyoming and jobs and the housing industry and the lot. I really had a hard time hearing you, I felt like you were far away and the noise of the place made it hard to hear. Plus, some of us are just more loud-mouthed. : )

I started that happy hour because I saw someone else on another thread try to do one unsuccessfully. At the time, there were some people posting about how hard it was here to meet people. And I wanted to make new friends. So for me it wasn't a happy hour to talk about Denver. Just a people meeting time. We've kept it up too and I have made a friend or two. Maybe when you come back we'll still be meeting and you can join back in.

I've been to Las Vegas once and hated it. We stayed at the Sahara, and that place was icky. All the bling bling bling noise and drunks and gambling addicts. We couldn't really afford to do the shows, they were pricey. And it was packed everywhere we went. We gambled in the day (blackjack) because at night the stakes went wayyy up. I thought Vegas was supposed to be cheap ?!? But it just didn't seem that way. I didn't get to ride those crazy coasters because the lines were out of control and I didn't feel like spending $50 on one joy ride.

We finally got tired of the strip and took a cab to a local mall. That was nice, but it felt like we were in Denver. Outside of the strip it looked really sprawly and suburban. I've heard great things about the lake over there, supposedly close to the strip? But I've never been.

I hope you get to enjoy L.A. and surrounding. I wish I was there. I don't really like many parts of L.A., but love the outside beach towns and south of there. I think we just like opposite things in where we live based on what you said about Albq.

I hope your schooling is going well.

Well that's good. No worries on the reps. What comes around goes around. Sometimes. Not so much in this forum. Rant.

What I would like to be able to do is find you some good Mexican food. You are one picky dude! Ok, here's the best; If you happen to be near Citizens Watch in Torrance (or wherever that is) head east a bit, then in about two miles, turn left and there's this roach coach there! They have the best Mexican Food on the planet earth! No joke! They've been there for 19+ years. At Mi Ranchitos, you've got to try the #1 Carnitas or the bacon-wrapped shrimp. Some say the menudo is good. I'm dying to find out what you didn't like about it. I may have to go in there and give them a piece of my mind!

You sound like some folks I knew back in GA.... for some reason, I get a feeling you're not voting for Obama, BUT I have been wrong in the past...

Blessings

On the worldwide level, perhaps it might be boring if we were all the same. I wouldn't want to get rid of all the race and cultures that we currently have. However, for a nation, I believe that it is essential that there be a majority group, as that is the definition of a nation, and it is what helps provide the "glue" of the nation, along with other cultural elements, such as language, etc.

You can make Chinese, Mexican, etc. food. You don't have to import people from those regions.

I've lived amongst enough "diversity" to know that there's little benefit. In fact, all I noticed was negatives at one extreme and no benefit at the other. This not only in Georgia, but also in California.

Why would I vote for a Socialist? I will not be voting for Obama or McCain (A Liberal).

I'm going to vote my conscience and vote for Chuck Baldwin (Constitution Party Candidate).

Boston is about as diverse as Denver. You can check out the U.S. Bureau of the Census if you'd like.

Why all the the talk of "diversity", though? How does "diversity" make an area better? It doesn't. We all know that such talk against more homogeneous areas is geared toward white areas, as though there is something wrong with them. To suggest this is to suggest that there is something wrong with white people and white areas. In considering America's history, in that non-whites weren't allowed into the U.S. in large numbers until 1965, it's crazy to act as though there's something wrong with white people and white areas.

That's true. People don't criticize black or Latin areas for their lack of diversity

That's because some people, the media and magazines in their defintion of diversity define largely black or Latin areas as 'diverse'. It's all how you define diversity and of course what your "agenda" is. I feel this modern day diversity movement and the diversicrats are trying to advance their agenda at the expense of others IMO. It's a poison pill in many cases. Sad.

I've heard a few small stories about people relocating to places like Denver, CS, FC to escape diversity, 'extreme secularism' and the political climate of places like NYC, Northern Cally (e.g. SF) and Southern Cally (e.g. LA, SFV). Has anyone heard/seen similar?

I haven't heard the same (though it might be the case with some). My own reason for wanting to go elsewhere other than NYC has to do with living in the same city my entire life. I simply want something different.

Think of your favorite food and then think of eating it every single day.

And since LA is one of my two choices I defintily don't fit the reasons you posted.

I've always wondered what it was like to live in the valley (i.e. the San Fernando Valley) but have been told its not as nice as it was in yesteryears (i.e. when CHiPs and Charlies Angels were in their prime on TV).
