Relocate to Denver Area with child and horses
My husband, my daughter and I are looking to leave Michigan-(terrrible economy, weather-i.e. no sun) and relocate. We are looking all over the country and one place we are interested is in Denver area. I am wondering, overall how the economy is? I am an attorney and my husband is basically an entrepeneur. We also have 5 horses so would need a small farm. Are there areas around Denver where we could keep 5 horses that we could purchase for around 550,000? Also how are the taxes and schools? Sorry for so many general questions I just don't know much about the area but have heard great things and will be coming to visit soon. Any information on the areas around Denver would be great!~ Thanks in advance for your help.

There's a neighborhood near Heritage High School in Littleton that allows horses. Don't know if it is in your price range, tho. Tell your realtor to check around Rangeview Drive. Cherry Hills Village also allows horses, but that area is very expensive. I don't know of any other close-in neighborhoods. Try looking at Salida or Elizabeth.

As far as taxes and schools, you can get a lot of info from searching and the indexes one of the mods put together. Your budget sounds low to me for horse property, but down in the farther southern suburbs there are some less expensive properties.

You can get a horse property for that - how many horses who knows.
I have a two+ acre property in Greenwood Village for under a mill - zoned for three horses.

Taxes in Colorado are lower than in Michigan.
I think it would be safe to say $550K would come with "good schools".

You may want to look at Black Forest where $500,000 can get you 5 acre horse properties with a very nice home. It is about 75 miles south of Denver.
We live in the southern end of BF so our kids go to district 20 International Baccalaureate schools, and there are other great schools: Classical Academy, Arts and Ideas, technology oriented, etc. ( Academy School District 20 - Welcome). People here are very helpful and friendly. We live 5 acres apart, but have annual neighborhood gatherings. There is a good mix of folks as well. Our neighbors are artists, writers, military retirees, teachers, business owners, etc. For us, it's a great place to raise kids.
If you live further north of BF, it can be a little lonely for your daughter, but the forests, meadow, wildlife and views of the mountains are just wonderful for people of all ages. Szusza Hand was our Realtor. I don't have her number, but will look for her number if you are interested.
Good luck.

You are probably better off in the southeast part of town. Places like Parker, Foxfield, Centennial or unincorporated parts of Arapahoe County.
