People here have already covered that Denver is the Region's team. People from all over Colorado and neighboring states root for Denver teams. This simply isn't the case nor could be the case in many other parts of the U.S.

Strong ownership from Pat Bowlen and Stan Kroenke. (It helps to have a billionaire and smart businessman, sports enthusiast, Real Estate Developer like Kroenke, a lot of cities don't have a Stan Kroenke)

Football: Denver Broncos

Hockey: Colorado Avalanche
Soccer: Colorado Rapids

Why?

Metro Denver is only about 2.5 million at best. Many larger metros don't have a team in every sport. Take San Diego for example. It's a little larger than Denver (SD has about 3.1 million metro), and it only has a MLB team (Padres) and an NFL team (Chargers). Or, even Phoenix (4.1 million metro). They have four teams, but still lack an MLS team. How about Seattle, a metro of about 3.5 million? They have a baseball team (Mariners), a football team (Seahawks), and a basketball team (Sonics), but the latter is in danger of moving, and they have no major league hockey or soccer teams.

Why is Denver gifted in this regard? Is it because it's so isolated, or is it because it has enthusiastic, supportive fans, moreso than other cities?
I don't understand what your issue is. Dallas/Fort Worth area has all 5:
Football - Cowboys
Baseball - Rangers
Hockey - Stars
Basketball - Mavericks
Soccer - FC Dallas

There are also minor league baseball and hockey teams here and arena football. As long as they are selling tickets...who cares how many teams a city has. Texas is a big a$$ state and only San Antonio and Houston are other cities with major league teams, but both are 4 and 5 hours away.

If I were to question anything it would be, why does Chicago have 2 baseball teams? I don't care though but they obviously can sell tickets or there wouldn't be two.

Yep, so does New York (and my Marlins kicked the Yankees butt and won the 2003 World Series! Then my Miami Heat beat the Dallas Mavericks to win the 2006 NBA Championship. Happy, happy times for a Florida girl).

Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area (San Jose, to be exact) I'll say this - Denver is way more enthusiastic and supportive of their sports teams than what I experienced out there. This truly is a sports town and they love all of their teams here.

In Norcal the vibe is that of fair weather fans. But out here, the sports scene is a religion. People pay attention to all of the pro sports, not to mention the huge college sports scene.

Yeah, well, nobody gives a crap about Florida.

I have been and always will be a die hard Broncos fan. Even when I lived in Ohio, i'd always fly out to be at the season home opener.

Although I do miss the old Mile High stadium, I do love being in the united club level of Invesco Field. It's well worth the $350 ticket price, trust me.

But those are all located in different cities...

I'm more interested in how LA has two baseball teams, two basketball teams, and yet no football teams (that is if you aren't including SD).
