I love south Broadway, over by the Mayan. I absolutely love Ichabod's books and all the other book stores over there, Freakys is on the corner. And then there's Senior Burrito I think it's called, yummy. It's on the cross street where Freaky's is, right off of Broadway.

I like that area too; it's your quintessential old school urban neighborhood. Isn't Ichabod's the one that changed their name to "Mutiny Now!" or am I thinking of another one?

No. As far as I know, it's still Ichabod's. It's a very small, dusty bookstore. The only one I can find that has my fav obsure horror stuff. I hope it's not Mutiny Now!

I looked this up, apparently your fears have come true. This page confirms it. Also, Mutiny Now Art, Books & Coffee - Denver, CO 80209 | Metromix Denver. It's still a pretty cool bookstore and coffee place, although a little bit less labyrinth-like than it was before. I remember thinking the same thing myself when I lasted walked in their (last winter). The name change of the bookstore is a microcosm of the changes going on that neighborhood as a whole, as over time it's taking more of a self-consciously "edgy" feel.

I voted for Colfax for its historical nature and it's distinctly different "East side" and "West side".
When I lived in the Denver Metro I always noticed that whenever you pulled out the yellow pages, most of the businesses were either on Colfax or Broadway. Can't do without those.
I liked Speer, but I'd like to say that it turns into 1st by Cherry Creek mall and kind of merges into Leetsdale which becomes Parker. So from Federal to Colorado Springs. Not too shaby.
When I lived in Englewood, I used to shoot up Downing to get to the Auraria Campus and back down on Franklin, or visa versa. It seemed like one was good for going north as it was a one way, and the other was good for going south back home in the evening. Some neat neighborhoods along there from Colfax down to Hampton, or is it Jefferson St.?
University is a nice street to with a lot of nice mansions. I used to live near the South Glen mall on Vine and Arapahoe (in a small apt) and was close to University. I used to see Mike Shanahan jogging down that street. I think it was him, or a giant rat.
When I lived in Littleton, I grew accustomed to Wadsworth and Sante Fe. I also liked Dry Creek/Mineral/Ken Caryl.
When I worked for Master Halco, a friend of mine lives in Arvada and he had the little 52nd to 50th to 48th to 52nd shortcut down. I can't remember exactly how it went, but it'd take you from about 52nd and Wadsworth east to Washington and near our work in the Commerce City area. Neat little shortcuts that go underneath roads like Wadsworth, 76, Sheridan and underneath I-25 with no on ramps are cool.

aaagh, I just realized that Ichabod's was on the corner, and yeah, I do remember it changed names. That one was an ok store. When I lived on the hill, several years ago, I remember a story coming out about how the owner was doing something illegal with his books, I can't remember exactly, but he got in some trouble and the fate of Ichabod's was sketchy. It did go on for some time.
ok, the spot I was thinking of is a few doors down from Freaky's and Ichabod's, heading north, and called Fahrenheit. Sorry about that. That guy has awesome obscure horror -- my fav genre.

Can't Beat Colfax
I voted for Colfax, though there are certainly parts of Colfax that have too many car dealerships and run-down businesses. But it's a long street, so you have to give it some slack. My favorite part of Colfax is hands down the Bluebird District. The marquee on the Bluebird is beautiful at night when it's lit up. Also, there are a lot of cool bars and hangouts on this stretch (Mezcal, Atomic Cowboy, Rockbar, etc). It's a great night spot if you want to get away from the frat-party atmosphere of lodo.
The whole "City Park South" section of Colfax between York and Colorado is undergoing a huge renaissance, so now is definitely the time to enjoy it there, before the secret gets out.
Capitol Hill is also a great stretch of Colfax. The Fillmore is one of my favorite places to see a concert (although for drink prices, you can't beat the Bluebird. In addition to cheap bear, they have Leinenkugels on tap -- can't beat that).
If I were to give a 2nd and 3rd place for favorite streets, I'd give Broadway 2nd place and Santa Fe 3rd. I'm surprised more people haven't given Santa Fe any love. I think it's a cool stretch with a lot of beautiful old buildings.

I'll 3rd Colfax-metro Denver's longest and most diverse thoroughfare. You've got farm and feed supplies at it's eatern most point, the old Aurora main drag, the gentrifying Park Hill section, the Cap Hill stretch with all the funky bars, shops, restaurants, and Red Light districts, Civic Center and downtown, Ruby Hill, then all the way out past Davy's Chuckwagon Diner to Golden.
