Moving to seek Paradise. Been there.
And having lived in 5 different states, extremes of climate and society, I say Paradise is where you find comfort, peace of mind, a purpose. At one time I'd have declared it is having family around, but that depends on whether your family is safe, healthy.
Weather is to be adapted to, state of mind makes it that way. Unhappiness makes any climate miserable.
That is when we are inclined to pull a "geo". That move which will solve our problems, give us a new start. Having done those, rest assured they do not work for long.
So before we stride towards a "Paradise", let's be certain blinders, guilt, mistakes, relationships, aren't keeping us from the one we occupy in the present.
And I'm talking more to myself than any poster here. Please take no offense.
Thanks, from a middle aged person.

I truly have no real reason to move, and nothing to run from. My wife and I have great jobs, son started kindergarten, and everything is going great. I have occupied the house I currently own since 1984 (yes, I moved into it in 5th grade and bought it in 2000), and I really want to experience the changing seasons. 32 of my 34 years of existence have been in Central Florida. I spent 2 years in Japan (northern area, weather equivilant of Upstate New York), and I loved it.
I am a visual person. I like to look at things. Florida is Flat, and after 32 years of Summer, I am ready for a climate change, and there is no better place than denver.
Maybe i few years from now I will change my mind, but till then, I leave the security that I have to forge forward, with no regrets, and no ghosts in my closet.

you are so lucky. We wanted to finish ours too, but the cost involved, even if we do it ourselves, just isn't worth it compared to the benefit. But good for you! I bet you love your basement in the summer!!

I really like your post. What I get out of it is that by moving, you aren't leaving your problems behind. Be realistic about it. Meaning, I want to move to Miami. That doesn't mean my life becomes the stage of Miami Vice, or that I get to go to the beach every day. I still have to work and get tired of my crummy job, pay bills, etc. But for me, instead of on the weekends trying to appease myself with what I feel are boring Colo. mtn. towns, my weekends in Miami will be going to the beach, which make me much happier.

Ghost, I've been living that life (or "the" dream) for the last 30 years. The only time I've stayed longer than a couple of years in one place is when I moved to the states where I lived for 5 years in the Mojave Desert in CA.
Maybe you do have a wanderlust but you aren't afraid to move on and see what life will throw at you next. So many stay put year after year just wondering ".......what if......." but I think there are very few who actually do anything to fulfill their curiosity about going to another place for fear of losing their security.
As a matter of fact I wouldn't even call it a wanderlust really but instead just moving when your time there is done. In my adult life I've lived, traveled to and worked in some 50 countries around the world. I'm a disappointment to my parents because I never settled down to have children but I've done enough things in my life that could fill a book or 2 including owning my own business and working in tourism for many years in different countries. I've had some hard times but even those have brought great stories and I have no regrets about anywhere I've lived or anything I've done. I've tried to live and let live and not hurt anyone along the way and never broken the law or ended up in legal trouble.
There's nothing wrong with moving around and it shouldn't have a gypsy or wanderlust stigma attached to it and if it has then I've been proud of it cause I've lived life to it's fullest.
People like yourself and I just move along when we've done our time in a place and feel it's time to move on. In my case I've never been afraid to walk through an open door of opportunity even if I don't know where the heck that door will take me. I've always landed on my feet even if it's been tough at times financially. I always seemed to have managed so far without getting into trouble.
Life is a roller coaster full of ups and downs and you only get one go around. Got to make the most of it.
Live it well, good luck and take care out there.

I undestand your feelings Ghost. I spent 20 torturous, miserable years in NE Ohio. I'm originally from Colorado Springs, and I wanted to come back ever since I left.
One thing in my life led to another (Divorce, job and house loss, etc..) so I just decided , F it, why the hell not? I sold everything, packed up my truck and my dogs, and just did it. I can't beleive I didn't come back here 10 years ago.
Would have saved me alot of trouble.

The Next Step on the Incredible Journey of Life...
First of all...WOW! Great posts. It's nice to see NO relentless bickering like you often see on these postings...Thanks! You make me smile knowing that I just arrived in Denver on Friday night, Aurora to be more specific. But I am already happier. Although I got winded, it was really funny to be truthful, taking things up to my third story area, and also I almost died of a dried nose the next morning...
The world came to a beautiful stop when I pulled open the blinds and for the first time since May saw the beautiful snow-capped mountains in the distance. (I arrived later in the evening) I knew I was here. Now it's off to the races to get a job, in a much faster-paced, dog-eat-dog world of a bigger city. Oh yes, I am getting lost. IN fact, this is the first major city I have lived in, with exception to Honolulu for about six months.
I am looking forward to each job interview, each handshake, OH! I found a Arbys, A&W, I am in HEAVEN. Hey, guess it doesn't take much to make me happy after spending 8 years on two different islands...
Ah yes, the old phrase, "The Grass is always greener" True, but in Arizona most yards don't have grass. In florida, it's covered with Palmetto bugs and the trees have Banana Spiders. Not to mention, anyone heard of muck and sinkholes? How about moles? These can all exist in "Green Grass" And a friend of mine was bitten by a brown recluse in a beautiful green yard. The point? Green is a color. But your perspective is more important. And in Colorado, it's green and wide open! I am loving this from the minute I arrived, I knew Land was what I missed.
My paradise has been found...at least for now. I will never forget the world of Key West and the lessons the "Wild Wild West" taught me from living there for 3 years. I am still young, but feeling the desire to want to settle in a bigger, more opportune environment. AT least to finish school. But that's a whole different story!
And thanks for the comment on purpose. Many have and will continue to search until it finds them. Oh yes, it has to find you. I believe that is one reason I have been seasoning myself with travel. So that when love and my purpose finds me in life- I have gotten my adventures out of myself and the adventure of a relationship and a family will seem exciting. For me, the only real unconquered frontier! Cheers to that!
As for the rest of you, if you should feel the need, set Denver in your sights. I noticed that Indianapolis, although fairly comparable to Denver, had no mountains. I will miss my family, but they are about 500 miles closer than they were in the Florida Keys. And as far as storms go, I couldn't have picked a better time.
I don't think I have wanderlust so much as I just like to experience new places and new things until some woman throws a lasso around me. It ain't happened yet, more due to the fact that I just haven't really looked all that much, as I have been having fun. I think that when it's time, It will happen. I have been so lonely before, and it was finally like, "this is stupid. Someday I won't be able to do any of this stuff and I should enjoy it now."
But here's a note to all the people following my exploits and the others posted, and making up your own minds. "Nothing good comes without some kind of effort or price." Here's another one that served me well when I owned my own biz..."Don't wait till your ducks get in a row...They don't" That's an excuse in life. Waiting for the moment to be perfect means you would never get married, never get a driver's license for that matter. Don't wait for life to get up in your face and force you into a move, or then, as one poster so well put, you are only running. Your problems will sneak into your suitcase or pop out of the new mailbox as a welcome wagon.
For me, the time had come, and it progressed over several months till I just decided to listen...I had accomplished all I wanted to...and done SO MUCH MORE THAN I DREAMED OF in Key West. Good luck to all of you, and msg me if you arrive in Denver. Couldn't hurt to have a cup of coffee with a new friend...
By the way, thanks for putting up with my second Novel...
Big dreams and high hopes (5280) in my new home in Aurora! And I can't wait for me to get hired so I can reward myself with a weekend hike! And I can't wait to see snow again. (may regret previous statement)
