what about purchasing a home in bonnie b. or washington park or any of the older neighborhoods that have a shopping district near by. You could scrape the house and build what you want.
Cherry Creek is really the place to go or Denver for the designer shops. (if you want them all in one area like a mall.)
Lakewood, (Solterra) is also an area you might be interested in. They are all European homes (Provence, Tuscan etc.) so that might fit you and your family well. They range from $500k-2.5 million.
