I'm glad I went out of state for college in undergrad (Arizona State). I really wanted to come back to Colorado to do my master's degree, but unfortunately the program I wanted just wasn't here, which is why I'm in LA now until next May. I definitely think there are advantages to going to school in another place and experiencing different slivers of the USA-- or the world if you study abroad for that matter. One of three things will probably happen a) You'll like your new place so much you won't want to come back home, b) You'll realize the grass isn't greener and want to come back home when you're done, or c) You'll move to an entirely new place altogether. For me, I feel like I've already been away from Colorado long enough where I really miss it and want to come back. But if you've never lived anywhere else before, it's hard to know...

SF is a great city for the young, the rich or the young and rich.

I live in SF but will be moving to Denver in a couple of months. I've only spent a weekend in Denver, but from what I saw and what I know... I have got to say, SF pretty much trumps Denver in terms of culture, diversity, food, arts etc... This also applies to natural beauty as well. The weather in SF is moderate all year round. Not only do you have the ocean right there, but you can easily escape to the mountains and get snow in Tahoe, visit the lush redwood forests in Mendocino or go to Death Valley for the desert.

We decided to move to Denver for a job offer. Although it isn't SF, Denver seemed nice enough... despite being a bit bland and white for my tastes.
