On an average how many days does it take to crack a IT job in Denver?
Hi,
I am located in Denver. I am looking for a job in Information Technology (Java Field) for a month now. I am having a fair exp in this field, more than 3 years. I do not have any fixations about salary/hourly rates.
I am getting few responses but have not cracked any job yet! I am quite dissapointed with the progress........
My question is: "On an average how many days does it take to crack a IT job in Denver? "
I mean on personal experience basis, please share your comments/answers.
I am pretty much bothered regarding this.
I am coming from IT city Bangalore and there people crack job in one day.
I am not expecting the same result here but there should be a decent time limit.
Regards,
Deb

Hi Deb,
I am not sure how long on average it takes to land a job, but I think I can help give some advice. In reality, the market is getting tough due to the economy. Since you only have 3 years of experience, I suggest you try to obtain some sort of certification. It seems that employers are seeking employees with 7 plus years of exerperience, so certification maybe your best bet to prove that you know the material. I hope that helps.

Are you updating your resume on a constant basis on sites like Monster, Careerbuilder, and Dice? Such as making a one letter change and resaving it? Because every time you update your resume, it goes to the top of the list of search results for recruiters and employers.
Also, if you haven't already, join The Rocky Mountain Internet User Group. They have a job board that posts multiple new listings every single day. If I remember correctly, that is how I found my current job - through a recruiter on their job board.
My experience is sort of unusual, because I've never seen such short turn around. I was living in Ohio at the time, and emailed a ton of companies saying I would be available for interview between such-and-such date because I was coming to town from half way across the country. Luckily, I had 4 responses/interviews out of the 20 or so places I emailed, and 2 of them said yes. The entire email/Denver/interview/hired process only took about 2 weeks. So here I am in Denver.

hey deb,
that's great. I'm certain that it will help you in your search. The certification will also help increase your salary. Good luck on your test and studies.

It always took my DH more than a few days. I am surprised at the way you worded this question. It was always more like months.

It really depends on your specific skills and experience. From what I've seen, employers aren't looking for a general skill, like Java, but are looking for specific experience, such as experience working with the Spring Framework in Java.
That said, I'd say that it's going to take at least about 3 weeks from the time you first make contact with a company to getting an offer in your hand. It takes that long just to decide to select you, phone screen you, interview you, and decide on an offer. It can, of course, take much longer than that if they're not in a hurry.
I'd say the estimate of 1-3 months is a reasonable expectation.
