Huh? what are you talking about? Is it a yearly charged tax? If so, that does sound like BS.

But all registration charges are BS fees to collect $$ to spend on various crap. I think in the case of 'ownership tax' fee, they just used a very bad description for it.

So I'm a little confused. I have a 2007 car that had a msrp of 30k, but I paid 25k and is probably worth 18k. Would I pay the registration tax on the 30k, 25k or 18k?

If CO is anything like AZ or CA, then What the value or what you paid for it has NO meaning to them, they always go with the MSRP, then deduct a certain percentage from the MSRP every year.

It's a rip off. Nevada (Las Vegas) was more, but not by much. At least in NV you don't pay state income tax!

2006 Dodge Magnum: $380
2006 Chevy TrailBlazer SS: $360

Yikes ! I better stay put in WA.

WA used to tax vehicles on value, and newer cars could be nearly $1,000. (+ 8% sales tax) Thus many of us drove 'beaters'. We voted a limit and the fee went to $35.00. Now they are slowing ratcheting up the fees in different ways ... I still drive my 30 yr old 50 mph 'beater',

When I moved from CO to WA I also had to pay sales tax again on any Motorcycles, boats, trailers and any more than 2 cars...

We have different offices for Driver and Vehicle license, but Oregon has a single office (with huge lines). They also have multi yr plates for cheap.
