You could live in Castle Rock and drive to the light rail on Lincoln ave. It's only 4 exits north of the Meadows parkway exit. I agree that the drive time could be extensive depending on where in Denver your husband is working.

We timed that drive this past weekend and it took 11 minutes....but that was in good weather and no rush hour. But DH just loves that area (and my DD does too)...he says he won't mind the commute. He currently drives 35-45 minutes, so riding the train would be a nice change of pace -he could read the paper, or sleep, lol.

Your problem is only a problem if you're dead set on living in a new house-- hence all those outer suburbs you're looking at. If you're willing to live in an older house, which could still be renovated and a great neighborhood, you would open up a ton of choices of where to live.

Okay Red Sox. I am from Boston and am facing a potential move to Denver as a result of a job offer that cannot be refused in this economy type of deal from his employer. Suffice to say (and you may be able to relate or not) that it is akin to telling me that we are moving to the moon. He may be commuting. How are you finding it there? You were raised here? I have three kids and two labs-how are you finding the people? I would bet they are "nicer and more laid back" than Boston but you never know.

I am an attorney here and dont know if you have any insight into that line of work in Denver. thanks for any thoughts.

There are plenty of new houses in the city, either scrapes, or entire developments, Stapleton, Lowry, the stuff going up at the old Gates factory ...

Thornton has some very nice homes within your price range, and it is very nice up here. Right now though, you would have to drive into denver. The north parkway rails are slated to open here within the next 5-7 years.

Both North and South can have some heavy traffic, South on I-25 though the tech center and North down I-36 can be pretty gridlocked. If you can miss either in your commute, it would be a huge weight off your stress level.

Oh, and Gratz :-)

AS a Parent with a severely autistic kid I understand the importance of a good school for the kids. If your 13 year old is severe, and cannot be placed in the classroom with normal children then your best bet is to move into the Cherry Creek district, if he can be mainstreamed then any of the Douglass county, Jefferson county, Boulder Co, and Broomfield county schools should work well for you.

Just to clarify, Broomfield Co. is served by 7 school districts. Most students are in Boulder Valley, Admas 12 and Jefferson Co. schools. I hate to recommend school districts, but Boulder Valley has a rep as having excellent special ed programs. BV serves northwestern Broomfield County, and southern Boulder County.
