Go to yellowpages.com and search for "employment" in Denver. Hundreds of results will show up and then just start making calls or sending emails to see who specializes in I.T. recruiting. You call also check out Dice.com which is an online job site that deal with ONLY I.T. jobs. Or try using Google and search for Denver CO IT Recruiters

Yeah... kind of tried that. No luck. We're hoping to talk to someone directly. Just shooting blanks lately, it seems.

In my point of view the difference between a recruiter and a headhunter is that a headhunter is a freelancer so they do not work for a specific company unless the company itself is a staffing/recruiting firm where recruiters could be working for the company that is doing its own hiring.
Anyhow, most people is mislead, they believe a headhunter is out to find You a job which in reality, they are out to find a candidate for a given position. So, there really is no one out there looking for a job for You other than yourself and since almost all 'better' jobs are either listed online or given to a recruiting firm/headhunter to find to best candidate, you are better off updating and making your online resume stand out from the rest.
Of course, not to mention the exposure it will need, you will have to submit your online resume to as many online sources as you can so headhunters can find You!
May be its just me but all the IT jobs I found actually found me. A recruiter contacted me by means of my online resume.
Concentrate on sup'ing up your resume, make sure it stands out from the rest, no grammar or spelling mistakes, etc. If your skills are in demand and your resume does a good job of displaying your skills, you should have no problems getting calls and/or e-mails from companies or headhunters.
Good Luck.

2Degrees was a great recruiter for me, it's not all IT (since I am in finance) but they have a bunch and do a great job.
