I am planning to move to Denver soon. I have spent most of my life in big cities (New York City, Berlin, London, Istanbul). Will I be able to fit in? I actually like nature, but never had a 'real chance' to be outdoorsy.
Also, I am Turkish. Do people in Denver date people from other cultures? The reason I am asking this is that I just spent three months in rural Georgia, and it was horrible! Everyone was treating me like an outsider. I had men approach me, but for the wrong reasons. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've lived here 12 years, and I love it. The city has a nice urban feel to it, but you don't have to drive too far to be in some beautiful mountains. I spent some time in Atlanta for school, and I think you'll find people in Denver are more friendly. Although Denver is not the most diverse city in the country, people here tend to be very open-minded culturally in my opinion.

Denver isn't really a big city like NYC or Istanbul, but you probably already know that. Walk down 16th Street Mall, though, and on a nice day you might mistake it for Taksim/Istiklal Cadessi in Istanbul, though the latter always seems to have way more people.

As for dating people from other cultures, there's likely a world of difference between Denver and rural Georgia. I really doubt anyone will care much about what country you're from and you may meet some who are genuinely interested in your Turkish background. Most men in Denver complain that there's an imbalance between single men and single women in Denver (too many single men), so I doubt you'll have any problem dating if that's what you want.

If you do come to Denver, in your situation I'd highly recommend living in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. It's one of the few parts of town that actually somewhat resembles big-city life.

If you do have an interest in the outdoors, Denver certainly has plenty to offer in that department.

Denver's probably a little more laid back than any of those places, and far more suburban. But you should do okay if you're used to Western American cities.

One cultural difference that you'll notice right away is that unlike "international cities", most people here dress pretty casually. Wearing tennis shoes to dinner at a restaurant is not uncommon.

I don't think you'll have problems finding dates.
