We dont really have any "Ghetto Rides" in the southern half of the city. Castle Rock, Parker, Franktown and Elizabeth are pretty much homeboy free. There may be a few wannabes here and there but it is nothing like I used to have in Florida. In Florida, any kid who turned 16 got a Honda civic, found a JC Whitney Catalog and pimped it out with a Huge Fart Pipe Muffler, Plastic Wings, Japanese stickers and mega sound (not clarity, just volume). You know, 5k worth of parts on a 1k car. In the Tampa area, the police turned a blind eye since there were so many on the streets.
Luckily, its not like that here.

It makes me fear for people to see the wannabes, and at the same time I'm very amused. It's great to overhear some of the conversations if you can get close enough..."Man it sucks, I got drunk and wrecked my car. But my parents bought me a new one when I get my license back."

If you don't want "boom cars", stay out of Central Aurora, I hear them daily.

I actually miss having one myself.

Thats exactly what I am talking about. But where you live is too far south for me. How about the areas closer to the city, i.e. Englewood?

I hear some occassionally in Englewood but not often. Englewood isn't much of a "want to be gangster" kind of place. I see more people fixing up and driving classic cars and motorcycles around here then anything else.

I never had the neon or the wings or the giant exhause and whatnot, but I have had some serious stereos in some of my vehicles, I enjoy it and it can be a lot of fun. I was always after the clarity (SQL) rather than the volume (SPL) aspect of it, though a stereo that sounds "clear" can get plenty loud I assure you. I only note that because this is the first time I have ever seen the term "boom cars", that seems an odd title but I suppose it fits.

I like my music loud, sometimes very loud, but I do not want it rocking the entire block and you can take steps to prevent that. Trust me, I never "wanted to be a gangster" or whatever that means. To the people that are like what was stated above, loudspeakers on the outside of the vehicle, etc, just to make noise, I personally don't see the point.

It does bring up an interesting argument over what's acceptable. It is very relative. A kid in a 4 cylinder civic with a huge stereo blasting away? Annoying, yes. But if you compare that to let's say a soccer mom (or dad) in a giant SUV, V6 or V8, idling away at a stoplight or a starbucks, your personal perspective is what tells you who is being the more obnoxious of the two. I think it can be argued either way myself.

I personally would rather experience some huge bass rolling by rather than ear-splitting exhaust from some lame Harley that can disrupt an entire main street, or in Colorado the giant pickup trucks, but it is definitely to each their own.

Both suck. But in general, at least here in SoCal, the car stereos are more frequent than either of them. And I never, ever want to hear someone else's car stereo inside my home.

Fair enough, I just have had the opposite experience concerning motorcycles specifically, but I feel I have the same level of frustration.

On the same side of the coin though, I don't want to hear helicopters, planes, roadwork, horns, buzzers, superchargers, turbo chargers, sirens, car stereos, harley exhaust, crotch rocket exhaust, civic exhaust, golf course sirens, hemi exhaust, cell phones, jackhammers, engine braking, lawnmowers, downshifting, car alarms, advertisements, ice cream trucks or fireworks from inside my home but I sometimes do.

Of course there are ordinances that attempt to prohibit or control at least some of these things, so I suppose it, as was originally stated, depends greatly on where you choose live.

Before moving anywhere, and this is a real issue for you like me, check out NoiseFreeAmerica, search their back Newsletter issues, and in one of the issues it'll give you a list of every state, county and state and what they're doing about these Noise Terrorists.

Like Akron, OH which authorize on-the-spot confiscation of the offender's stereo system, which places you can spend time in the county jail for disturbing the peace with boom cars, which places you can even temporarily lose your license over it, which places will even impound boom cars and those with the stiffest fines, like the State of Oregon with $1500 fine for a first offense.

They're cracking down all across the country on this menace to society.
The director of the abovesaid organization is working to create Federal Laws governing this issue. Long, long overdue!
