Thinking of Coming to Denver
I'm currently a NYC high school teacher and am seriously thinking about moving to Denver. Any insights or thoughts about the school systems in Denver? How about job opportunities for teachers? In New York City the job opportunities are horrible due to the current politics between the City and the Union. I have a job, but am unhappy and honestly don't know how long I will be able to keep it.

Look in the INDEX of threads, in both the Denver forum and the statewide forum, for main threads on SCHOOLS or TEACHING.

Go up to Boulder, the assistance level is much higher (income wise) because the cost of living is higher. I had a professor complain she was getting housing assistance at 77K a year to live in city limits, I wouldn't complain but she was pretty limited with the info.

According to my son who is a high school teacher and my wife who is a elem. school principal, you would love being a teacher in the metro Denver area. My wife and I have lived here all of our lives and believe there is just no better place to live and work than Denver. I knew we have room for one more great teacher.

Here are the school web sites that you ight want to visit that will give you excellent information about the area schools. Some of the sites will also allow you to compare your school system with ours. If nothing else, the sites will give you contact numbers to call and discuss your specific questions with the shcool administration of the various school districts.

A national database of school demographic information can be found on the National Center for Education Statistics Web site. Click on the "School, College and Library Search" tab at the top in order to view data including a particular school's student-to-teacher ratio or enrollment by race and ethnicity.
For a snapshot of academic performance and to compare schools, a prospective homeowner might browse the School Matters Web site, a service of Standard & Poor's.

Teaching jobs are competitive here, but you may be just who some district is looking for. In addition to following Mike's and Denver RE's suggestions, I would add, apply to every district and for every job that you can. Also look at Boulder Valley Schools, Boulder Valley School District
