My fiance and I are moving from Las Vegas NV to Denver in a 3 Weeks. I just got a job at a local bank. I need to know which areas are good to live in. Which suburb is great to live in. I will work near Lakewood and want to be some what near but dont mind the drive as long as its within 10 miles radius give or take. I would really appreciate the feedback. Ideally I want to pay no more than $800 max. Thanks!

Near Lakewood covers a lot of ground. Can you be more specific?

I'd look at Lakewood itself. It's the 3rd largest city in the metro area and has housing in all ranges -- no need to go anywhere else.

Ditto to what tfox says. I would avoid southeast denver (boarders lakewood). You will probably find a great variety of places to stay. I found my place on craigslist when I moved here. Try to sign a short lease, 6 month, so you can really get a feel of where you would like to stay.

Lakewood is nice from what I have experienced, but you are going to be limited with your $800 range. I will say STAY AWAY FROM AURORA! I moved there about a year ago and feel somewhat stuck due to pricing. The cost of living here is fair, but real estate does not really seem to be in align with that. Good luck!

Aurora has plenty of nice places and Lakewood has plenty of ****ty ones, thus the moniker Lakehood.

Please let me know. I will be signing a lease soon and dont want to get stuck somewhere im going to regret. Thanks

I never heard that moniker but I am not young and I do not hang out with the hip crowd. You are one of my favorites, on this forum, because of your knowledge and acceptance of many areas in Denver that others consider "hoods" and you are right on in your defense of those neighborhoods---so do not downgrade all of Lakewood. The real truth, as said before in this thread, that Lakewood has various different neighborhoods and I would not say any are that bad. Jewell and Sheridan is a good area and an apartment on Fenton, in that area is a good choice, or any area that I have been on Fenton. You are close to shopping and many parks. I have driven through that area many times, on Sheridan, on Jewell and all around; been on the bus, stood at that area on stops, many times over many years; it has some nice expensive homes and not so expensive but a bad neighborhood--no, no, no.
