Default Where can I get a high quality used car in Denver?

My car broke down and I need to buy another one soon. Where can I get a reasonably price used car in Denver?

I'm sorry to hear about your car. Recently I bought a used car from Boulder Motors and had a really good experience. The salesmen weren't as pushy as other used car dealers, so I didn't overspend from the pressure. They found a car within my price range. They're right outside of Denver. Here's their website if you're interested:

I've never been to them, but Rockies Auto is always advertising on TV. Rocky's Autos Perhaps other have actually bought a car from them and can vouch for their service/reliability.

If you got the cash, why not look at the local paper or CL for a private hand car?
Wouldn't that be cheaper than buying it from a dealer?
If I am not financing, I much rather go after a private hand car.

You didn't specify your price range, but Weisco Motor Cars has a good selection of low mileage cars in excellent shape. They have the vehicles online with lots of pictures and pricing. Their web site is Weisco Home

There's a place in Boulder, Griffin Automotive (IIRC), that has an entire business where they buy old, but relatively low mileage Toyotas and Hondas from Florida (a lot of elderly people down there who own a car for years, keep it super clean, barely drive it, and eventually can't drive anymore), bring them to Colorado, and sell them like hotcakes. I almost bought a car from them once.

Be especially careful of Florida cars especially Honda and Toyota. Having recently moved from there, Hondas and Toyotas always carry a premium price due to their ultra high demand by the homeboys who pimp them out. I find it hard to believe a dealer would pay top dollar in florida and bring them to Colorado where they typically sell for a much lower price. The common trick down there is to trick a car out and disconnect the odometer. In a few years they "restore" the car to "new" condition, reconnect the odometer and pass it off as a low mileage used car. One of the most common problems is engine damage. They put on large bore exhaust systems which remove the back pressure on the exhaust system. Although this gives the car a bit more power, it sacrifices the exhaust valves as they typically get burn damage. A Good inspection will usually find this out. Don't rely on Carfax. These vehicles seldom go to dealers for repair work so the repair history will never make it to the source carfax pulls from.
One more thing about Florida cars. If they were owned in a city by the water, there may be salt corrosion. Its not like up north in New England. The salt is carried in the high humidity air. and affects the entire car not just the undercarriage. Best thing to do is just check the corners of the trunk and hood, and also the suspension components. You will see tell tail signs of rust.

Dont want to scare you, but just wanted to let you know that florida cars are not always "Gems". It really boils down to the car itself. Yes you can find a lot of good cars, but there are also a lot of lemons out there.
