I have lived in the Adams County Part of Arvada for 22 years-near 64th and Sheridan--been in Colorado 30 years.
All the areas you are talking about are not considered and never has been considered a very high crime areas. There are specific small areas that can be problematic especially around west 38th, near Federal in Denver. The area is much better today, than when I moved here, because of the gentrification of Northwest Denver (Actually North Denver in Denver Speak). These areas are now considered the new desirable locations for the new rich in Highland, West Highland, Berkeley and Sloans Lake. These areas are very close to Downtown Denver and the attractions.
I have not found any situation that caused me severe concern. However, I am an ex New Yorker, lived and worked in Manhattan; I accept diversity; I like old areas and I am now old, but I have always been ugly--nobody ever bothers me.
I regularly go into the Berkeley area in Denver, Tennyson, Berkeley Lake, Lowell, West 38th as it is just down the road from where I live. Never a problem. Now you see many families, people walking their dogs, children playing--all very sedate and quiet.
As far as these old areas of Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Mountain View---I would not worry too much about any of these areas. They are all becoming gentrified because of the movement to the cities and the interest in these old convenient neighborhoods in Northwest Denver and the older first line suburbs.
