Lochbuie
What is the real commute time to Denver for work? I'm looking at a job in Commerce City or possibly the legal center of Denver.

Nobody wants to touch this thread with a 10 foot pole... Why??? I'm not familiar with the area, and home prices seem low there. Any insights would be appreciated!

Here's a few previous threads on Lochbuie. http://www.city-data.com/forum/searc...archid=9189971 Not sure whether you've read through these yet or not. I live in Brighton (less than 3 miles from downtown Lochbuie according to Mapquest) and I can get to Commerce City in probably 20 minutes. I can't say about the commute to Denver as I rarely have a need to drive into Denver proper. From what I understand the prices in Lochbuie are low because it sits in Weld County which is suffering from depreciating home values. It's a very small, rural town and there's really nothing much in the town itself. You'd have to come to Brighton for any of your needs.

Lochbuie Commute
HJ1 here,
Lived in the Denver area most of my 52 years. Lochbuie is nice: Lots of new homes and very rural, but still affordable. Home values are indeed depreciating, but this is a national issue not specific to Lochbuie.
Commute to Downtown Denver is between 45 min. to 1 Hr. depending on traffic and route taken. There are a few options. I lived in the Reunion area just South of Lochbuie, (15 Min.), for 5 years, and always made the Downtown commute in 45 minutes or less.
Brighton is approx. 10 minutes SW; Commerce City, (just South of Reunion), is 20 minutes; Thornton is about 25 minutes SW, with Westminster another 10 minutes going West.
Lots of Suburban sprawl around Denver with lots of activities; including, Hiking, Skiing, Camping; Major Sports City; Casinos up on the Mountain; Four distinct Seasons, (sometimes all in one day), and friendly "Western People" feel!
Hope this helps!
HJ

So do you think the commute from Lochbuie would be longer than say, from South suburbs (Littleton, Centennial, HR, Parker, Castle Rock)?

Lochbuie Commute
The Southern Suburb commute to DTD, while comparable in distance to Northern Lochbuie, puts you on I-25, or CO 85, which are both a nighhtmare durring rush hour.
Primary Lochbuie advantage is HWY-2, which keeps you off the Interstates. Don't get me wrong: The Northern area has grown tremendously over the last five years, with no sign of stopping, but the commute to DTD is still easier. You might consider some of the older Northern Suburbs: Thornton, Northglenn, Westminster. Closer, but still linked to I-25.
Northwestern Suburbs: Broomfield, Louisville, Lafayette, and even Boulder are a little farther, but then the Boulder Turnpike, (US 36), can be a Bear, and still dumps you on I-25.
The Western Suburbs, Arvada, Wheatridge, Lakewood, Golden, may also be food for thought, but I-70 then becomes the culprit. Not as bad as I-25, but it's still an interstate: One screw up and you're bumper to bumper.
Lochbuie is not for everyone. It's small, quaint, and very friendly. Fresh air and real country atmosphere: Great place for raising children. But like everywhere else, it's growing. Maybe you can get in for a few years before urbanization.
