That's why we moved here. Even though it's cold, it's not too cold most of time. Yesterday I was out with the kids and it was cold and sunny - just the way I like it!

An old thread, but if you haven't found it yet, its a good read and should prepare you somewhat. We made our winter trip in February, knowing that its one of the coldest, but not snowiest months in Denver. I'd suggest doing the same just to make sure you like the cold before moving. There's a couple pictures on page 2.

Oh trust me, moving from Cali to Denver is DEFINITELY an adjusment..... moving from Chicago to Denver is RELIEF!!!!! I'm so use to driving in the snow I know at JUST the right moment I need to tap my breaks to SLIDE through a corner. As far as transitioning from a mushy lane to a clear one, THAT is easy. Gotta give yourself an extra boost of speed JUST before you make the change and DON'T touch the brake or throttle the whole time you're changing.
I've got driving in the snow down to a science (plus I'm obsessed with cars and driving so I've mastered driving in all conditions).......
My boyfriend moved to Denver from Chicago this past march and he's said it is SO nice that the sun is out most of the time. He said when it snows it is a RELIEF and a BLESSING because it's NOT crazy like it is in Chicago. You want to REALLY scare the crap outta yourself???? Fly out to Chicago right before a snow storm hits, and try and drive in THAT. If you can drive in a Chicago snowstorm, you can drive in anything!
As far as thunderstorms go..... I use to live in Kentucky and North Carolina. I've been through a hurricane :P
I'm looking forward to being in a much more MILD climate in comparison to Chicago. I can't WAIT!

I grew up near Buffalo and after 30 years in Denver----
I WILL NEVER GO BACK to that depressing, decaying city with weather that is cold and continuous snow in the winter; wet, humid and constant rain in the summer.
I can remember many winters in Denver when I maybe touched a snow shovel once or twice. I can remember Christmas and Thanksgiving, wearing shorts. I can remember riding my bicycle in December and January.
I can remember all the summers that are hot and dry in the day and cooling at night. I never knew that the weather on a high dry semi-arid plain would be so great.
Yes, I can also remember blizzards but seldom and not continuous over months as in the Great Lakes.
Yes, the weather in Denver is ideal....not too hot and not too cold...just the "right porridge" for this old bear.
