Just visited.......
I was just in Denver this past weekend looking for an apartment/ scoping out town (ie driving around aimlessly)..... and I LOVE it there!
I'm trying to move there in the beginning of February and I can not WAIT!!!!
I love how nice and sunny it is most of the time, I love the mild weather, I love the VIEW..... and the fact that I'm so close to the mountains.
I flew in friday right after it'd finished snowing, and it was sorta cold and icky out, but 3-4 hours later it was nice and sunny and warming up. THen Saturday and sunday I didn't even need my coat! AWESOME! I was so sad to leave on sunday....... had to come back home to.... ICK..... Chicago! And as we landed I saw blustery wind and snow!
I went from 70 and sunny in Denver to 30 and snowing back here! ICK!
I LOVE Denver and how easy it is to get around in comparison to Chicago! I didn't encounter ANY bad traffic like I do around here. I can't wait to live there. I just had to blurt all this out!

I think my perceptions of Denver are quite the same. I've been doing lots of visits there in prep for a relo, and I have family nearby, which is the biggest factor in wanting to go there for good. Also, the winter weather is quite mild, you may get an occassional blizzard, but within a few days it gets warm again and you can walk around the snow piles in shorts!
My only concern right now, would be the economy and trying to find a job along with the other locals there. For that reason, I'm waiting yet again to see what happens by spring of 09, I just hope things will go the other direction, because right now, it's not looking very good.
I was there in the summer and worked at the DNC, and the place was so alive, but even without the convention, there is always something going around downtown, and it's great to be in such a liveable urban setting.
Please keep fingers crossed that next year will see some decent job growth, because that's when I'll head there!!!

I'm glad you had a nice trip to Denver. Unfortunately you're in for a rude awakening if you think the nice weather you just had on your trip is like that all the time. Denver is known for being 70 degrees and sunny one day and then 30 or 25 and blowing snow the next (or even the same day). What you experienced going from Denver back home to Chicago could just as easily been Denver the next day. You'll have to put up with plenty of freezing cold, windy winter nights in Denver, trying to drive in icy conditions. And some nice weather in between of course. But I sure hope you don't think it's all like what you just experienced-- or we could be seeing "the next LBear" a few months from now.

Yeah.....coming from Michigan with dark winters with tons of lake effect snow from Lake Michigan...Denver winters are a piece of cake compared.

HAHA....... yes I know the weather in Denver doesn't STAY at 70 all winter. BUT I also know that it isn't a steady -10 with a wind chill of -20 and 4 feet of snow that sticks for weeks on end........ THAT'S Chicago!!! and I KNOW Denver doesn't get like THAT. Like you just said, it can snow and then be sunny and melt all in the same day. I prefer THAT over the steady freezing and sticking snow that we have in Chicago

As someone who has lived in New England and Ohio, the winters here are a pleasant surprise! If you can handle Chicago, you can handle it here!!
Good luck in your move!!
