Just put a rubber bag over it and call it "Safe Sex"---and this "art" can contribute to the public good and we will not have to see it.

This reminds me of the ceramic penis display, supposedly a statement against domestic violence, at the Boulder Public Library a few years back. They were stolen by someone who thought they were pornographic. That display was approved by a librarian who didn't want to fly the US flag after Sept. 11 because some library patrons might find it "offensive".

ANYTHING that is taller than it is wide ends up being called phallic. i think the washington monument is way more phallic than the sculpture we're talking about here. art is, was and always will be subjective. just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not art. i hate asparagus but that doesn't make it not a vegetable.

I never understood that display, you think if some one wanted to make a point they would have used symbolism that would have made sense to their general audience.

Art is truly in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes art the is too straight forward makes me think "so what"...".it's a goat, so what." So I appreciate art that makes you think. My only real question is who picks the art the tax payers buy for our streets and decides how much we will spend on it? I love all the sculptures and fountains and would never want public art to go away but it just seems like allot of money. I am also curious weather the artist set out to make anything in particular here and what he/she saw when looking at the finished product.

Yes. If you are driving north on I-25 at night you can see it on the right hand side vibrantly lit up on the right hand side. Just be careful not to wreck the car... When you see it you won't know what to do!
