Skiing and snowboarding
I just want to get a feel if anyone out there lives here and doesn't like skiing and such. I haven't been skiing or snowboarding in my life, and as of right now can really care less to. Maybe if I tried it I might like it but I'm not running up the hill just to try. Your thoughts?

Wife and I try to go up every other weekend (have Summit Passes). It's 80 miles from our house, about 1.5hrs each way. Going this Saturday to Breck!

Hey bullfish, I moved to Denver for the downhill skiing. Kind of a long story how I came to it. I've always loved being outside during the winter, seems a magical time of year for me. When I was growing up, I often watched the winter sports on t.v. with fascination. But I never wanted to try downhill skiing after seeing the NBC sports commercial every weekend...Remember..."The agony of defeat" and the poor skiing guy tumbling down the mountain? Well, that image of skiing was burned into my mind as a child.
So when I reached my 20's, I began to dabble in other winter sports, but there was no way in h*ll I was going to try downhill skiing. Too risky for me.
Then I reached my early 30's and suddenly I decided to take more risks in life. I started to experiment with things that I wouldn't dream of in my conservative 20's. So I thought, yes, I'm scared to death of skiing, but what the h*** I can at least try it once. I was living in Maryland at the time and one of the local resorts was running a beginners package for $30, lesson, rental and lift.
So that day changed everything! Being out in the crisp air, challenging myself to overcome my fears! I felt more alive that day than I ever had. I ran my first run top to bottom without falling. At the bottom of that first run, I knew I would be skiing for the rest of my life.
After that, it was just a matter of time to get myself to a city near skiing. I'm only an intermediate skier at this point, but I live for it. It is amazingly fun and uplifting to be on top of those mountains. I can't be described in words, it must be experienced.
So, I'm going to recommend that you find someone you trust who has an enthusiasm for the sport! You simply cannot go through your life without trying it at least once. Try to hit a local mountain like Loveland or SolVista on a weekday to maximize your fun.

I've actually only skiied once, it was in NH of all places! but growing up in CO, we never had the money or inclination to do it.
I had a good time doing it for the first time, but I prefer snowshoeing. and I'd like to try cross country skiing! great for the buns and legs!

You might want to be careful saying things like that, the internet is a wide open place, you never know who reads this stuff.... your boss might be one of the many city-data stalkers that read and never post.

I don't ski, and I have no interest in skiing (or snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice skating, etc). I have been cross-country skiing in southwestern CO, and don't really care for it. The cross-country experience makes me think that I really would not enjoy downhill skiing, which isn't something that I am interested in in the first place. I don't like cold, snow, or risking injury, and it seems awfully expensive.

I'm not a skiier/snowboarder either. I took a class in high school, it was part of our gym requirement, but that was the last time really. I dislike cold and snow and the thought of driving through the mountains to pay for a ticket and then not enjoy it seems dumb. I did promise my husband we'd go once this winter because I'm thinking it'll be our last winter.
