I broke all of the rules. I decided to take a gamble today and visit the 27th and Welton DMV to see if i could possibly finish the registration process on my Jeep during my lunch hour. I know conventional wisdom suggests not visiting the DMV during a lunch hour OR on a friday, but I did it..

.. and I walked right in, got everything taken care of right away, and walked right out. Total time spent at the DMV: literally 10 minutes.

I work near the history museum, so I walked to 16th and Broadway, took the Mall Shuttle to California, and then took the light rail to Five Points. I left work at 12:00PM exactly and returned at 1:07.

I can't complain.

I know people generally hate the DMV, but my experiences in Colorado so far have been OK. Maybe I'm lucky? My other DMV experience was at the Hampden/Sheridan location and it was pretty much the same, although I went to that one on a Wednesday afternoon, mid-month.

I always use this DMV (Five Point neighborhood), because some folks are afraid to go to it. I spend more time finding parking then I do inside the actual DMV. They have a goofy parking lot but tons of parking right on Welton.

Well it is middle of the month, with Christmas not far off. So that's two factors that could have people not going to the DMV and instead going to a store.

Car registration has always been really easy in Denver. Getting the driver's license is a total nightmare!

But the nice thing is you only have to deal with that every 10 years, so it's better than some other states with longer lines and having to do it more frequently.. I'd rather give bone marrow than go to a New Jersey DMV

Same here in dealing with California DMVs. They feel more like welfare/immigration offices than DMVs.

The good thing about CO, is there are DMVs that only handle registrations, renewals, and out of state DL's. I know of two, one at Arapahoe/Revere and one on Chambers somewhere between 6th and Mississippi. Both are breezes.

Yeah, I've lived in Southern California and had the pleasure of wasting probably 5 or so hours waiting in line at both the Hawthorne and Torrance DMVs.

I guess that's why I continue to be impressed with the DMV here.

The Driver's License center was a bit of a hassle when I first moved here, but even then, I think I waited like 40 minutes. Compared to Southern California, that's nothing.

**

I grew up in Pennsylvania and one thing I have to give them credit for is that they (seemed to) operate fairly efficiently and even printed driver's licenses on the spot.

I bought license plates in Adams County last month at 7:00 AM and it took 15 minutes.

I can't say my visits to the DMV have been quite as smooth, but I can't complain.
