Coyotes are common all over the state. Yes, people are aware but many also subscribe to the "wont happen to me" club. In fact, a woman was walking her dog here in Colorado Springs this morning and her small dog was bit by a coyote, in her presence, on the ear. KOAA.com - Coyote attack stirs wildlife debate Also, mountains lions love to snack on the various pets we keep.

Foxes are also very common so cats, smaller dogs and backyard bunnies are also in danger. It's the chance we take, no matter what part of the country we live in. The coyote, foxes and mountain lions (as well as bears) prefer to not be around people but for various reasons they do come into populated areas, even in more established cities and towns...

We see them quite often in the wooded area next to my house. The are mostly skittish, but just recently we saw one sauntering down the sidewalk on the other side of the street. We frequently remind our kids to be aware of their surroundings and to give coyotes a wide berth.

We have them in Lone Tree (right next to HR) also. People's cats get eaten all the time. We back up to some open space and I came out to find my dog nose to nose through the fence with a coyote. They were just staring at each other. A fox lives in our neighbors back yard.

I've seen a number of foxes in the park hill area. I'd advise against having pets outside unless you have things fenced in pretty well.

There are fox running around Capitol Hill and Governor's Park. Mostly see them in the mornings about 4:30 - 5:00 am when I head for the gym.

We hear them howling in the open space in Louisville at night. I've also seen them between Louisville and Broomfield in an empty field.

Coyotes have become urbanites though out the West not just here...A night time drive in the hills and canyons through LA. will generally allow you a sighting or two..
I have seen coyotes here in Colorado every where from the top of Twin Cone Peak above Kenosha Pass to the Glendale area in Denver....They are pretty much top dogs
in the metro as they have very few predators...When I was in the Army we did manuevers in Death Valley, they used to run along sides of the rolling armored tanks begging for food....Used to have keep them out of our garage in Boulder...I have to stop and think about what areas I have not seen them here in the metro...Coyotes will still be here in the area long after you and I are gone..

Default Coyote....

This guy lives behind our house with two other coyotes! We always walk out with our dogs and never leave them unattended. We are less than 12 miles from downtown Denver!
