It is. You can also take the cherry creek trail which actually runs down the middle of speer -- probably more pleasant since you won't have to worry about stopping for traffic.

Disagree about staying away from 5 points -- it's not a particularly high-crime area these days and there are a fair number of sights to see there. Suspect the previous poster has not actually been there recently.

BorderGirl is on a distinguished road
I just came back from Denver and had a blast! I was in town for the NCAA Hockey Regionals (Go Sioux!) My friend and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency on 15th and California (I think it was on California) Anyways. We walked everywhere and didn't have a problem. We took the SuperShuttle from DIA right to the hotel. It cost us $22 a piece. $19 for the trip and then $3 tip for hauling our luggage around.

It was raining on Saturday so we took a cab to the Pepsi Center and it cost $5. Inbetween games we walked across the street and hung out at Brooklyns with the other hockey fans in town. We took a cab back that night as well since it was still raining.

However, on Sunday we just walked everywhere. Our hotel was 1 block away from the 16th street mall, which we walked up and down twice before the game. Then we took the shuttle to Wynkoop and walked the rest of the way to the Pepsi Center which wasn't far at all. I could be wrong on the streets though, I misplaced the map that I got from the Hyatt and it was very helpful. After the game we just kind of wandered around Downtown Denver. We're both female, both 24 and didn't have a problem. We bar hopped after the game and ended up at the brewery on 16th for a couple of hours before wandering back to the hotel. The only other people we ran into were other hockey fans and just locals doing the same thing we were. We never once felt threatened or afraid for our safety.

As far as getting back to the airport, I don't suggest a cab. We took a cab back and it cost us significantly more than the SuperShuttle. The Hyatt told us it wouldn't cost more than $43 and don't let them charge us more than that. Well after the cab driver drove aimlessly around downtown (adding more $$ to the total) we got to the airport and ended up owing him $60! I was livid and refused to pay that much and we worked out a deal. I'm only slighly glad that we got there so quickly in the cab because we had a little issue with our tickets and needed the extra time.

I had a fabulous time in Denver and can't wait to go back. I'm definately considering moving there when I'm done with Utah.
