The thing I like about Denver weather as a person scouting places to retire (it's in my top 5, actually at the top of my top 5 right now) is that since I'll be able to choose when I go outside and stay inside, I can avoid the early morning winter cold and go out biking when the sun's out and when it's 50 or better. That was 12 days in December according to weather.com, even with the arctic front that came through. During the past week, there have been 5 such days. I kept a log of Denver's July 2008 temperatures too, and there were only 9 days when the temperature got above 95 degrees, and 4 of them were 96 degree days. Of course being retired would mean that I don't have to wait for the hottest part of that summer day to go biking, and the average lows tended to run in the 60s. The 2 days it even got to 100 in July, the lows were 70 and 69. That means I would catch my daily bike ride in the morning, structure my indoor activities for the afternoon heat of the day, and catch a Rockies game in the evening. Thus avoiding the extremes and still being able to do outdoor activities all year long.

In Tampa, riding a bike in the summer is miserable day or night, with the mugginess. A little tough to breathe water. Denver's highest and lowest average monthly highs are 88 in July and 47 in January. Tucson's is 100 and 101 in June and July and 66 in December and January. Tampa's is 90 and extremely muggy in July and August and 70 in January. So it really comes down to a trade off between the extreme summer highs of Tampa and Tucson versus the extreme winter lows of Denver. In Tampa that means staying inside during the summer so you can breathe. In Tucson that means staying inside during the summer daytime hours so you won't cook. In Denver that means staying inside during the winter nighttime/early morning hours so you won't freeze. And if I'm going to have "weather-inconvenienced" for weeks on end I'd rather it be during the overnight hours than during the day.

The new Mile Hi was approved by the taxpayer's vote. Just an FYI. Didn't have much to do with Coors Field.

Actually, all the stadiums are already built. Coors Field (Colo. Rockies) is what resurected LoDo into condo lofts and the creation of the Ballbark neighborhood. Invesco Field at Mile High (Broncos) was built in 1995 and the Pepsi Center (Nuggets and Avalance) is on the south end of the Auraria Campus next to Six Flaggs. Our downtown is packed with much to do and you should be pleased once you get the chance to visit.
