Trust me, it's no breath of fresh air. I would recommend using the light rail if you can instead of driving. A few weeks ago they opened up a new pedestrian bridge connecting the County Line station with the mall. There are no cheap apartments that I know of in that part of town. You'll probably have to look from Hampden northwards. I don't even know if a studio apartment under $400 is even possible? Maybe a jail cell-- I hear those are free? However with one roommate your share of a 2 bedroom apartment could easily be in that price range. One idea I have for you is look at the Colorado Blvd/ Evans/ I-25 interchange/ light rail station area. There are a bunch of designated low income apartments right by Belaire & Buchtel that are walking distance to the light rail station.

Have you considered renting a room out of a house or getting a roommate off of Craigslist? Lots of people are looking for short-term stays or just someone to pay some extra rent.

I know I scored bigtime. Got a beautiful apartment in a primo area of Seattle for $475 per month. I couldn't get that any other way than going through Craigslist is my guess.

That's actually what I'm looking into now......... I see a lot of people renting out rooms or needing roommates and the monthly rent is only like $300-400..... which is in my range........

My only concern is going into someones place that you know nothing about. How do you protect yourself to make sure you're not renting a room from a serial killer or something? :P (I know, extreme, but seriously!)
