Denver Relocation area / school info
Hi,
I have read a ton on this site, great info! Relocating from Northeast this summer. I am thinking Greenwood Village, Parker, Littleton, possibly Highlands Ranch, maybe as far as Castle Rock (need to commute to DTC). I am confused as to how schools work, as I read you can send kids where you want. Any info. on how this works would be great.
I have three kids so I need best elementary and high schools. Housing no more than $700,000 if possible, in an area that maintains value. Somewhere with a town area would be great (as oppossed to endless sprawling suburbs), need bike paths, recreation programs, etc.
Thanks for any input.

I am sure you have read that Cherry Creek & Douglas County have the best school systems. The market isn't tanking, it is slow to stable, since 2001. (Personally I am seeing a lot of activity this month...not sure if it the great weather or the low interest rates or ??? But I like it I hear that with the unemployment rate shrinking and the new jobs being created the market is expected to get better.)
Greenwood Village, parts of Centennial, HR, Lone Tree would fit your requests...everything around here is outdoor oriented...walking paths, family friendly...

*Ok, first of all. If your looking for a home that is priced less than 700,000, Greenwood Village is not place. Homes in Greenwood Village range from 600,000 to 5 Million. Also, Greenwood Village is located ajacent to Cherry Hills; 36th Richest Community in American (Wikipedia 2007); Homes in Cherry Hills range from 1 Million to 20 million-(definetly not in your price range. ).
Although, an advantage would be being able to send your kids to to the best public (seems private even though its big) high school in Colorado- Cherry Creek High School.
*Personally, I think Parker is an "OK" place to live. Its father away from Denver and I'm more of an urban guy. So, if you like more of rural setting, thats your place.
*Highlands Ranch is more of a sub-division type setting and offers a wide range of prices. -300,000 to 1 Million. Has great schools and lots of recreation! Highlands ranch is your best bet.

Okay not sure where you guys get your real estate but there are lots of wonderful homes for 300,000 - 700,000 in any of those areas you mentioned. The schools for Cherry Creek and Douglas are really good and there are lots of trais a new rec center in centennial and a new mall going in. Lots of growth and exciting stuff going on.

For Greenwood Village, 700k is pretty low. However, there may be a few things in Sundance Hills and the eastern side of Greenwood Village? The closer you get to Cherry Hills, the closer you get to 1M.

Okay, I'm in the same boat. However, traffic??? We have the same situation, up to $700,000, two elementary school children.
My husband will be taking an office job for the 1st time in 20 years and very unsure of commuting. Where would offer the least commuter traffic?

My husband will be working at the 1600 block of Broadway, assuming it's downtown.

Yup at the edge of what I lovingly refer to as "Lawyer & Bankerville"
What about you? What's important? What's not?
