Katiana, have you tried growing columbines in other colors? The lavender/blue/white ones seem to have a difficult time at lower elevations. When I lived in Boulder I grew the variety known as 'Crimson star' (red spurs and sepals and cream-colored petals) and 'Rose queen' (rose sepals and spurs with white petals). In my garden (@8300 ft) they do well in the sun as do the yellow ones.

Thanks for the suggestion, neditate. I have had a few yellow ones, but I do prefer the blue as the blue/white combination is so pretty. Maybe I'lll try the pink Columbines.
