Default Is my dream worthwhile?

Hey everyone I'll try to keep this brief. 21 years old and currently going to college in IL. Have always dreamed of moving out to Colorado after I interned there for a summer. I love the outdoors and couldn't see myself living anywhere else but CO. I'm interested in pursuing advertising...is this possible to find out there? I'll probably be moving out there by myself..whats the cheapest area around denver to live? Ft. Collins for the college scene? Any input will help..thanks

Are you planing to move and continue to go to school or do you plan to move after you graduating (since you mentioned the 'college scene'). A lot of it depends on your preferences and not just "I want to live in Colorado." All this is great but make sure you have everything else planned out.

If you have to go to school here one you moved, you will be considered as an out of state student which fees are a "mile high."

Will you work in a place that you have interned? I would say Advertising is a tricky area to be in especially at the current market conditions.

Not to dampen dreams, but I went to school for advertising....and I work retail at a ski resort. Granted, I didn't work very hard at finding an advertising job, but it seems like the market is pretty saturated. Look at craigslist postings for marketing/pr/adv jobs under Denver and then Los Angeles. BIG difference.

On top of that, in an economic crisis, the advertising budget is usually the first to get cut.

You might have better luck as a marketing coordinator? Or doing in-house advertising for the client side.

Good luck.

Advertising is one of the lowest paying jobs there is. And in times like these, companies advertising budget is one of the first things to be cut. And Denver is not really the place for advertising-- think BIG cities. Sorry to be blunt, but I would pick a different career if you really plan on moving to Denver.

Hey, irisheyes, you posted your comment exactly while I was typing mine-- and we pretty much said the same exact thing!
