How about police helicopters? That's a big complaint I have about where I am now in Costa Mesa. It seems like that stupid helicopter is up all the time and its so much fun when I'm trying to sleep at 2am and its circling for 30+ minutes.

I have not seen or heard a 'ghetto bird' either in South Aurora (near vegaspilgrim) or in Central Aurora where I am now, in the past year and half that I've been here.
As for Buckley......what jets?
Get my point?
If you want to avoid any possibility of jet noise, at least stay out of zips 80011, 80017, probably 80018, and 80019 (DIA)

The idea of not hearing ghetto birds makes me want to move right this minute.

I've lived on the Front Range for about 10 years with little to no tornado action.
For Denver suburbs check out Douglas County Colorado, its a southwestern suburb - not in Denver - about 20-40 minutes from Denver. Larkspur is horse country with rolling hills and trees. Castle Rock is more suburban and still growing, along with Parker and Centennial. Highlands Ranch is a planned development (aka Little California) some folks hate it - I love it. Shopping is good and plentiful in all these places. Housing prices will be higher than in other suburbs but resale is okay still. The schools are great http://www.dcsdk12.org . The drive to the mountains is about 1-2 hours depending on traffic. There is always something going on - summer concerts and movies outdoors, league sports, dining....you name it.
Check out Golden a western suburb, Lakewood is a good choice, or Littleton.
Most parts of Aurora aren't bad -there are just better choices. Housing resale in Aurora has challenges some of the schools are rough, some are excellent - be sure on this before you pick Aurora. Boulder is pretty - I wouldn't live there - expensive housing and taxes lots of regulations.
Check out the north western suburbs too- Thornton, Loveland, Longmont, Fort Collins - they are growing like gangbusters. With many of the similarities above - the "new"communities built around existing small towns aren't as established as the southwestern area but they are being developed.
If you don't want the Front Range check out Rifle (small towns but growing) or Grand Junction on the Western Slope. Both are gorgeous - these aren't in the mountains - just on the other side. The weather is a little hotter in the summer and there are crops grown in these areas.
Hope this helps.

Do police in Colorado run their sirens in the middle of the night when on a call most of the time? When I lived in Phoenix, this almost never happened unless the police came across traffic (an understandable if rare circumstance), whereas in Los Angeles the streets can be empty and those sirens will wail all night long.

I lived in San Diego/OC for a total of 10 years (and went to college in Northridge) and just moved to the Boulder Area in October.
If you don't like the big city of Denver, perhaps the Boulder Area is a little more what you're looking for.
I'm still about 30 minutes (without traffic) from Denver if I need my city fix, but have the more subdued atmosphere of a college town.

PunkGuy, what is boulder like, my mother visited that part of town years ago and said it was absolutely gorgeous, I have considered Boulder, however when I search for places to live i.e: homes, apartments, etc. I am not finding much. How are the prices up there?
Also, how long have you lived there, and how would you say it compares to CA? Also, I am in real estate and would like to remain in that industry, also my GF is a Registered Dental Assistant, and also does front office management, any thoughts?

Boulder is more like Santa Monica minus the beach, up against high mountains. It's beautiful, quirky, fun... a liberal college town that tries hard not to be a Denver suburb, although it is.

I dunno David, technically the Denver Ghetto Bird does not hit Aurora but you do see/hear it quite often on weekends just at the fringe near Yosemite.
The Buckley guys just left town earlier this week for another deployment in Iraq so that noise is gone from the F-16s for a while at least.
I still see and hear quite a few helicopters, mostly medivac types that tend to head down Colfax more or less all the time (hearing one as I write this) and the twice weekly NG Blackhawks in the afternoon / evenings.
