Default LOVE Southern Park Hill but need something more West. What's like it?

Are there any cute, safe, tree-lined areas more West? My husband works near Colorado Mills mall on the border between Lakewood/Golden so Park Hill would just be too much of a commute.

Highlands? Berkeley? Anything else?

I'd love to hear about anything that's MOST similar to this adorable area. Thank you!

Yes, Highlands / Berkeley would probably be the closest to what you're looking for. I personally like the Tennyson Street area of Berkeley as it's more affordable and a lot more down-to-earth than the increasingly yuppie West Highlands. Safety is no longer a big worry as long as you're on the north side of Sloan's Lake, which I'm sure that's where you're looking.

One difference between Highlands and Berkeley and Park Hill is that there aren't really any of the "Parkways" there like Montview or 17th Ave , nor do you have the stately Tudor mansions on that side -- a lot more arts and crafts style, with more modest home sizes. Not that most people could afford the mansions in Park Hill, in any case.

Beyond the city limits of Denver, you can of course look in the older areas of Arvada and Wheat Ridge. Both of them have some older neighborhoods which are very leafy for Metro Denver; and you also rarely hear much about either, particularly Wheat Ridge. Livecontent has a lot of great threads about this part of town. Going beyond, the town of Golden's central core (around the school of mines and its small downtown) is a great area to check out.

Golden would be ideal except it's pricey and not much comes on the open market. Applewood was a good suggestion. You may also want to check around Maple Grove Resevoir.

Would Applewood be exceptionally windy? I've driven around in Arvada and Wheat Ridge, neither seem very "us." What about the Bear Creek area of Lakewood? Or Morrison? Littleton? I know I just need to get out there and drive around but your thoughts so far have been really helpful. Keep the ideas coming!
