Balkan Areas of Denver? (Croatian/Bosnian/Serbian)
I was just wondering what areas of Denver (both in the city proper and in the suburbs) do people of Balkan heritage tend to congregate? Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, etc. I've been told that more people from that part of the world live in Chicago than anywhere else in the US. Thanks in advance.

What is the Bosnian community like in Denver? Is it large? Small? Do they tend to congregate together or are they spread out? Are there any special shops or restaurants in the Denver area that have Balkan foods like Burek? Do the Croatians, Bosnians, Serbs, etc. have their own sports teams (soccer/nogomet)?

I have met some Bosnians in Boulder and Louisville. I have no idea how big of a Bosnian community there is in Boulder County.

Y'know, I really don't know. I don't think it is as large as Chicago's, and don't think there are any Bosnian neighborhoods here, which would lead me to believe that they are spread out.

There is actually a sizable former Yugoslavian population in Jacksonville, as well as Cleveland, but I can see how Chicago's might be the largest.
When I lived in Denver, there were a number of immigrants from *Russia* who lived in the Glendale/Virginia Vale area of Denver. They were usually Reform Jewish and there were a couple reform synagogues in central/south Denver, so this inexpensive neighborhood became established.
As for Bosnians, Croats, Serbs--I am not sure there are enough of them in Denver to have congregated together in their own little enclaves.
But I know there were Russian grocery stores here and there, and I wonder if they ever order Balkan specialties.

I'm not sure how useful it would be, but I know that the Serbian Orthodox Church appears to have an office in Englewood:
St. John The Baptist Serbian Orthodox Mission Parish
There's also a Croatian Catholic Church in Englewood, as well:
St. Louis Catholic Parish
 3310 S. Sherman
Englewood, CO 80113
Tel. (303) 761-3940
For other related cultures, you have a Romanian Orthodox Church in Dever:
St. John Romanian Orthodox Church
4600 Logan St. Denver, CO 80216-2728
If communities exist, they're usually oriented around a church. Best of luck!

Thanks for all the tips! Does anyone know if there is a specific Balkan grocery or food store in the Denver Area?

about bosnian area
ok might I correct you, chicago is one of the smaller areas with bosnians. I'm 21 year old bosnian born living in america.
Here are the top cities with bosnians:
St. Louis Missouri has the most-60,000 total
Jacksonville, FL-30,000
Utica, New york-28,000
Des Moines, Iowa
Waterloo, Iowa
Chicago, Illinois
Atlanta, Georgia
Portland, Oregon
Boise, Idaho
Seattle, washington
tri-cities, washington
spokane, washington
Rockford, illinois
Greensboro, north carolina
louisville, kentucky
East chicago, indianna
Hammond, indianna
fort wayne, indianna
dallas, texas
houston, texas
pheonix, arizona
las vegas, nevada
minn, minnesota
Sioux falls, Dakota
kansas city, missouri
orlando, florida
castelberry, florida
Tampa, florida
Buffalo, new york
syracuse, new york
astoria/queens, new york
rochester, new york
But bosnians are in every state basically. I've come across paper work from bosnians in smaller towns. I do a lot of placement/housing assistance with a bosnian organization. So I know where the most are.
ALl the cities listed about have @ least 3,000 bosnian born citizens living there.
Might I add, chicago has more polish people than the capitol of poland.
Also Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Moldovan, Bulgarian, Albanian/kosova, Russian, Romanian, german, french, dutch, icelandic, ALL Former Yugo, basically chicago has a large village for every european country AND all villages and areas are people that are from there and speak the language. It's often called mini-europe. But there is no specific polish area as polaks are all over chicago.
Denver has a restaurant and a bar/cafe that is bosnian & I will definatly look it up today and get back with you on this subject. Why are you interested might I ask?
