Any Africans in the suburbs?
i was wondering if there are any Africans living in the southern suburbs. i am African and want to move to either Littleton, highlands ranch, centennial or Greenwood village to rent an apartment and possibly buy a house there later depending on how living there goes.can any of these places be the best of places for me and my children in school?

I think you and your children will be very happy, safe, & comfortable in any of these communities! Out of curiosity, what has brought you to America?

I can only speak about my neighbors who are from Africa and their children who go to my daughter's elementary school. Our neighborhood is surprisingly diverse, considering it's in the suburbs. There are a large number of Africans, Indians, and Middle Eastern families who live here. They have a multicultural club at the elementary school and are preparing for an after-school event for kids who are from other nations to share their culture and food, etc. I know for a fact that there are at least 5 children from Africa who will be presenting specific things from their countries. My daughter's class has one boy from Ethiopia who is preparing a big booth full of food, dancing, art, etc.
We live in SE Aurora. My specific neighborhood is Saddle Rock Ridge. There is an apartment complex at the beginning of the neighborhood and 2 elementary schools as well as a junior high and high school nearby.
By the way, since TreeDonkey mentioned it...there are a lot of African Americans in my neighborhood. I am specifically referencing those who are maybe one or two generations removed from Africa. The little boy in my daughter's class is the first to live in America. His mother speaks English, but it's very broken. She came to my daughter's class when they were studying continents and had an amazing presentation on Africa. They had a "typical" marketplace, made bracelets, sang songs, learned dances and ate some sort of pita-type bread that she made in a stone oven outside.

There are plenty of racial statistics one the main city-data pages. Have you checked that out yet.
If so, then...
By 'African' do you mean literally from (born and raised in) Africa? Or do you mean, African-American? If you really mean Africa, are you including Egypt or the African/Asian subcontinent (aka - the Middle East)? Are you simply looking for an African or two to befriend? (which I'm sure exist in virtually any US metro area, even if statistics don't list them) Or a bonafide African community?

I don't think you can go wrong in any of the areas you've specified. Do you have any other needs that we can use to help you narrow down your choices?

As others have alluded to, it's unlikely that you'll find an exclusive community of Africans living in the southern suburbs, but that doesn't mean your family won't be accepted. In fact, I would venture to guess that you'll find people have a bit of friendly curiosity about you and your life experiences. If you're open to sharing, it might be the beginning of many wonderful new friendships.

To azuka: I lived in SE Denver near Greenwood Village and there was a sizable African population in the area. There are a couple Ethiopian Orthodox Churches in Aurora near 225 & Colfax.

To treedonkey: Seen as how you didn't offer any advice to the OP, why did you bother responding at all?
