Green Mountain (Boulder) is a good day hike. A little farther out near I daho Springs I like the St Mary's area. It's cool seeing people snowboard the icefield in summer

Looking for a day hike to do while the kids are at school so total roundtrip from Littleton area needs to be about 5 hrs to be back in time. Would like something with trees, easy to moderate. Any ideas?

I think that one of the most accessible hikes from Littleton is to drive up to one of the Parks along Bear Cree. Lair O' The Bear is a real quick drive, and you can hike either upriver or down river for miles. Here is a link to a Trail Profile for Lair 'O the Bear.
Another feature that is helpful is the google map of hikes on Dayhikesneardenver's site. Here is a link to that one.
