Back to the original question:

I lived in the Conifer/Evergreen area until recently and worked in Denver. Needing A/C in Evergreen will depend on several factors as previously stated. We were at approx 8200' elevation, on a very treed lot, and last summer I only recall one day that A/C would have possibly been helpful. Open your windows and doors (if screened) when you get home from work, and turn on the ceiling fans in the evening and you should be OK. When we originally moved up to Conifer from Denver, I right off asked the furnace repair man if we should get A/C and he just laughed at me and told me to open a window. He was right.

Ah ha ha ha that was great. Yeah hopefully it wasn't to far from civilization. I had a friend that lived up there. It literally took him 15 minutes just to get to a grocery store.... cheap place though

I would agree that A/C is not necessary in Evergreen. As a pp mentioned though, it can depend upon your altitude. We lived at 9000' and rarely saw temps get into the 80's. If you live closer to town it can get into the low 90s a couple of times during the summer, but that is not the norm. Low-mid 80s is more the norm. It typically cools down into the 60s at night so if you don't like it hot at night, just open the windows! Cross breezes are incredible up here!

Similar experiences as mentioned - no need for AC...We too have a house fan and we rarely use that. Just open the windows! :-)

I live in Evergreen currently. I'm the hottest person I know and I did fine without A/C. It can get warm for about 2 months in the summer, but nothing that a ceiling fan can't cool down.

This is a good thread. I had the same question. I'm planning to move to Evergreen and I HATE hot weather (that's one of the reasons I'm moving). Of course when I moved from California I though it was never hot here! I've been looking at houses in Evergreen and none of them have A/C so far. It seems like a lot depends on trees and direction the house faces. Plus what are my chances of even finding a house with central air?

I came from the Easy Bay Area of California 6 years ago. The temps in Evergreen are perfect. We don't have AC and have only had a few days where we would have liked it. I sell a lot of homes in the area and can confirm you won't find too many with AC. It is important to understand sun exposure in the mountains not only for Summer heat but also Winter driveway access.
Hope this was helpful.
Chris
