Hi,

I had heard negative things about Grant Middle School, but recently also heard that their new Principal Greta Martinez has really turned the school around.
I would really appreciate some information. I visited Hamilton MS, but was SO big, it scared me.

thanks!

I met with the principal briefly today, and will talking to her more in depth later in the month. She was very open and approachable. Grant has low test scores but I think they are improving and it is now a "Beacon" school, which you can find out more about on the DPS website -- www.dpsk12.org

I would suggest you visit Grant in person. It is a small school... only about 300 students and like I said the principal is very approachable. I have two kids in at McKinley-Thatcher Elementary which we are very happy with. The oldest won't be going to middle school for another year and a half, but we are starting to research now; One son has high-functioning autism and the other is in the gifted and talented program so our questions and concerns about the programs, staff and resources may be very different from yours. Good Luck.

Not really related but teachers from that school found the old Montana City Site (the first settlement in Denver before it was Denver) now marked by the Grant-Frontier Park.

I'm would not be surprised if Grant Middle had low scores considering where they pull from. You have to remember test scores are just one component of a good education. A great teacher in a "bad" school is still a great teacher.

Default Grant Middle School

Our daughter has been a student at Grant Beacon Middle School for two years and it's been a great experience. Principal Greta Martinez has put together a great staff and the learning experience has been very productive for her. Sure there are kids there who are unmotivated to learn but it's not for lack of support from the teachers and the principal!
