True, half of the state is flat and can resemble all of Texas sans Houston.

Hey there are trees in Austin, too

Northwestern Colorado resembles Nevada, especially far Western Moffat County.

Southwest has the ancient Indian cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde and don't forget the Great Sand Dunes. Cool Stuff.

Yes, Bluescreen, forgot about the trees in Austin, my fault. LOL. I just came back from DFW a few weeks ago, down there several times a year, and it always reminds me of the flat part of Colorado. Houston, Kehma, Corpus Kristi, etc. make a big difference, oh and the trees in Austin.

LEverett is on a distinguished road
Default Check out SE Colorado

There are lots of cool places to go in CO, but don't forget about the other half of the state. There are some pretty cool sites, geography and history like you don't hardly find other places.

Boggsville, Bents Ft, Santa Fe Trail, Camp Amache, Picketwire Canyon with the longest Dinosaur tracksite in North America, Picture Canyon, Comanche National Grasslands, hiking, camping, petroglyphs, fishing, boating.

One of the benefits of going to the SE is that you will probably spend less, see more and have more authentic experiences than you would other places. The drive time is no more than other parts of CO from Denver, and with the new heritage tourism movement you can find some unique lodging through heritage tourism websites for SE Colorado. Check out Colorado dot com and look for links from there.

Don't let everyone fool you the plains are beautiful and majestic in their own right, but that is not all we have here. There are mesas, canyons, trails and creeks. It really is worth seeing and even more it is worth experiencing.

In today's Denver Post (May 31), the Travel Section was almost entirely devoted to things to do in Colorado for the Summer. It included ideas of day trips, camping trips, hiking, water activities, historical drives, festivals, etc etc.

Check it out and go out and enjoy our amazing state!

Check out the rodeo in the town of Brush July 2-4, and the parade 4th of July weekend; top the day off with a drive to Fort Morgan for a movie at one of Colorado's last Drive in theatres..for info. on the drive in there visit Cover 4 Theatre and Valley Drive-In . Lodging in both Brush, and Fort Morgan is very reasonable. I enjoy occasional visits to these Eastern Colorado areas..nice small town vibe in both towns. Not just tons of things going on out there, but sometimes that's the point.
