Folks, just do yourself and the whole forum a favor here... put that troll on your ignore list once and for all, and stop responding to him (and I'll take my own advice too). By getting all riled up and responding, you're not fighting, you're actually feeding the troll. Just lower your blood pressure and move on.

I agree - and I should have done that - I was just a wee bit shocked to receive a nasty rep like that. Assuming it was him, he has to realize his judgemental and accusatory posts are BS. Live and let live. ETA - my blood pressure is fine...he doesn't get me real riled up - more amused.

maciesmom, I accidentally press the send button while I was typing my comment and apparently you responded in rapid fire. I was going to say, as much as we'd like to think that comment really was from steveindenver (and it sure seems to makes sense too), there have been several posters on this forum who have become victim of "message fraud" whereby people create accounts with the purpose of logging in and posting fraudulent messages and nasty rep point comments in someone else's user name. We're talking truly childish behavior here. I doubt that's the case here, but you never know, it's a possibility. You know, the whole innocent until proven guilty thing.
But whether that comment really was his or not, it really doesn't matter, I'd use the ignore list feature either way.

Isn't the internet interesting? I mean, for all the good it does, it also allows us to interract with people who are way outside of our normal group and sometimes their reactions are shocking, to say the least. I said it before...I just don't get why someone would be so upset about where total strangers live. And his attitude about the suburbs is totally irrational. Especially in a city like Denver where a large number of residents DON'T work downtown and therefore don't commute for hours at a time. Most of us live and work within 30 minutes of our homes (which would be considered "down the street" in LA) and aren't driving downtown Denver every day or driving across the metro area for every errand. My cars have well under 9,000 miles per year put on them. The miles they do have are including driving across the country (twice) when moving, driving all over Florida, driving from Arizona to California numerous times and most recently from Denver to Washington state. Without road trips, I imagine we'd put about 8,000 miles a year on them...and that's including my husband's commute to DIA. Hardly what Steve would categorize as excessive driving. But, just like you, what Steve thinks is so far down on my priority levels, I cannot even begin to explain.
If you think HIS comments are bad, you should see the ones I get from the American Idol threads. You'd think I am killing baby seals just because I'm not on the "Adam Love Train". It's just a tv show people. Just like you, I find things like that (and people questioning my parenting skills over a silly reality tv show) rather amusing instead of angering.

Back to the original thread... Live wherever you are comfortable and it fits your lifestyle. Whether it be an urban habitrail or a 1k acre ranch on the plains. Its your choice, you determine whats best. SE Aurora is nice and close to a lot of ammenities. Its has a tract housing feel to it with both modest dwellings all the way to McMansions on small lots with clubhouses. The communities are well maintained and the crime rate is low compared to the city. If you are near 470, then you are only a 10 minute hop down to parker if you need some additional shops such as Costco. If it feels right to you, then go for it.
I live in Elizabeth and I never claim to live in Denver. We looked there but decided we wanted the "Real Colorado" feel with pine covered forested hills and a small town "politically Incorrect" way of life. Elizabeth was built in the 1800 so main street has the old world charm. They have a Christmas program in the Police station parking lot every year and they sing politically incorrect "religious" Christmas carols. People look out for one another and the "We worship Obama" bumper stickers are a seldom seen sight. As for the water mentioned in earlier threads, we have wells and we own the water rights to the 4 aquifers below us. My water comes straight out of the ground and does not need to be treated with any softeners or chemicals to compensate for antiquated plumbing infrastructures. The small amount taken by individuals really has no impact on the aquifer levels. My back yard is full of ponderosa pines and is frequented by a herd of Deer, an occasional fox and all kinds of wildlife. We chose this area because in our opinion, it met all of our requirements and has the location, morals and values we preferred to raise my young son. I drive a bit to get to work, but its a small price to pay and its so nice to be heading home and see the city in all its congestion and pollution in the rear view mirror.
If aurora is what you like and it meets your criteria, then I would suggest moving there. Dont let the comments on this forum sway your opinion on the area.

Nav, I'm impressed with your ability to work an anti-Obama rant into your post, and, yes, I'm being sarcastic.

You can give negative rep? Do tell por favor.
Look, I don't feel good that my taxes pay for roads to nowhere in places that I feel people seem to think they are entitled to live but uh it does not keep my up at night either.
Live where you damn well want to just don't ***** about it in 20 years.
As an aside I do in fact bike everywhere. Those of you who saw the guy falling on his ass over and over near downtown on his bike and cursing? Probably me. WTF snow -- now? Really?

Honest take on SE Aurora
its funny, most people that do not or have never lived in Aurora seem to know so much about it! They will tell you about the crime, the gangs, the property values, blah blah blah.
Now granted there are some hubs in Aurora that i would not recommend and are in fact "bad." But that would pretty much go for any city within the Denver-Metro Area. I would not recommend the area around by the Aurora Mall - central Aurora (or at least parts of it), and i would not recommend the area that borders Denver, which would be the far northern area of Aurora. I am not going to sugar coat it - That area is BAD!
SE Aurora in my opinion is fine. My husband and I have lived in SE Aurora for 20 years so i think i can give you a pretty honest take of it.
From my years of living in Aurora which consistantly has this negative rap i can say that we have never had any issues with gangs, crime, muggings, break ins, ect. My area is a blue collar, lower middle income area. It is very diverse, safe, kid friendly and we really like it. Most of the people that live in our "hood" are younger couples just starting out with small kids. The playgrounds are always packed and people are very friendly.
SE Aurora is not far from Denver and you can hop on the light rail from 225 and parker. The houses are pretty basic, ours is 1970's tri level, not too architecturally interesting but it is larger and well built. We are also on a huge lot that overlooks a park. You can buy a house like ours probably for under 200k. So its very reasonable to live in Aurora, especially if you have kids.
Schools, here is my take. Of course Cherry Creek has a better reputation but honestly it is in fact a school to school thing. There are some great Aurora Public Schools and some horrible Cherry Creek Schools. You need to do your homework of course before you buy in a particular area.
That said, we love it in Aurora. Are the prices of homes going to go through the roof? Probably not. Are you going to get rich on real estate? Probably not. I guess it depends on what you want. If you are concerned with making a killing on real estate then Aurora is probably not the place to move to. If you want alot of bang for the buck in a house and a nice suburban area to raise your kids in and stay awhile then Aurora will do just fine.
I would also like to add that Denver it has become ridiculously expensive over the last few years. I think judging someone because they "Don't live in Denver" is kind of sad. Not everybody can afford a 500k loft or a crappy bungalo that barely fits a folding cot for 250k. I think what is sad is that Denver used to be affordable at one time. Now its you are either loaded or poor, there is not much left over for middle income with a few kids and a dog anymore. The areas that were kind of reasonable like highlands for example are so out of control real estate wise its nuts, and the people that are moving there - pretentious, snobby, and full of it. I have also noticed - not much diversity? Aurora=tons of diversity.
I will stick to Aurora thank you, i am sure that carpooling with 3 other women to my job every day is doing my part to save the carbon footprint.
