In Anchorage, Alaska, bars close at 2:30 or so on weeknights at 3:00 on weekends. You drive 45 minutes to Wasilla and bars close at 5 a.m. You can't smoke in the bars in Anchorage, you can in Wasilla. It seems that a state might have it's primary law, but each individual city (municipality, borough) can modify it to fit their agenda.
So you can't buy booze in the grocery store in CO? You can't do that in AK, have separate liquor stores, and it always is so weird (yet strangely convenient) to go into a state where they sell the beer right next to the milk.

heather: Yep, no booze in the grocery store here, EXCEPT for what they call 3.2 beer, supposedly half the amt. of alcohol in reg. beer , 6.0. But there is a huge debate on that too. I believe it though, it's like drinking water. I wish they'd at least put wine in the grocery store.
It is a state thing, although when you are in the south they break things up by county, then it gets really weird. You have "dry" counties where you can't find booze for miles.

Does Safeway have a liquor license or something? I see they sell wine in addition to beer (hard liquor too I think, didn't pay much attention as I don't drink it) but the beer I bought from there was 3.2% (Avalanche...normally higher APV).

All of the grocery stores are only allowed to carry 3.2 booze but that will probably change next. There is a fight going on as to why they cannot sell 6.0% and most of the citizens are for them selling a higher content. It is just a matter of time, IMO.

I think you just can't buy hard liquor on Sunday in Texas. I live in Texas and know the liquor laws pretty well (at least for my neck of the woods)
You can sell beer and wine in grocery stores with no issue, just not liquor.
Beer and wine can be bought up until midnight most days, extended to 1am on Saturdays. Hard liquor stops selling at 9pm every day.
You have to wait until 12:00 noon Sunday before purchasing beer or wine.
Last call at the bars/clubs is 2am but they typically start shutting down at 1:30 to get everyone out by 2.

That's odd that they separate beer/wine from liquor on Sundays. Some of these blue laws just don't make sense. We are on the verge of eliminating the last of our blue laws with grocery store liquor sales.
Damn no screw driver or mixed drinks on Sunday in Texas. I would of never known. Planning to buy liquor the day before is nuts. I tried that in Utah and it didn’t work too well.

The Safeway at Mineral & Broadway in Littleton is the only Safeway in Colorado that has a liquor license and can sell beer, wine and liquor.
Colorado law allows one store in the state in each chain to apply for a full liquor license (thus, for example, there's also one Target store in Denver that can sell liquor).

Hmmm...that is the store I bought the Avalanche from and it stated 3.2% on the bottle. I knew it when I bought it, didn't really care...just wanted some beer to drink lol. If they have a liquor license I wonder why it was the weak beer?

Is the reason some states do this primarily to reduce drunk driving accidents? I feel that the extra revenue would outweigh the benefits, considering that closing a locale early does not equate to less drunk driving (just earlier drunk driving, imo).
