A Day in the Park
Many of you do not have the opportunity that I have to visit parks during the weekday. I am retired and I do not work. Today, I decided to wheel myself around Ralston Creek in Arvada. There a number of parks fully connecting along this creek that sits north of Ralston Road and extends for miles. This creek is where gold was first discovered in Colorado.
What is very nice about this park is that it is very accessible with parking along many points and it is close to homes and shopping. In addition, there is a Jeffco Ice Arena adjacent and many other park amenities--picnic pavilions, playgrounds. Also, there is nice senior citizen center that is on the park and within walking distance to a Safeway and King Soopers. Having an ability to walk to stores is good for seniors.
It is probably considered the main park in the center of Arvada. Also, the city hall, offices and police department sit just on the edge--making it a very safe park. This area is so much better than many of these faux urban developments because it is real life with stores, restaurants that are reasonable priced and economical homes that have the aged memories of past families. Walking around these street can easily transport you into time and you can forget many of your troubles.
I walk/wheel ( I used a fancy little walker/rollator with a seat, today) until I get tired and find a nice tree to sit down under. The park is well used with many dog walkers--all dogs on a leash. Bikers are going through the park on the connecting trails to clear creek and to the Platte. There are many playing the frisbee course and youth in a skateboard park. Up to a few years ago, there was a pool but that has been demolished and a new one is planned.
What makes it really nice--it is easy to walk to Ralston or to Old Town Arvada and go to the Library, get something to eat, have an ice cream, or a burger, visit the many old style taverns, look at antiques or just hang around at the fountain, under the gazebo and just relax.
All this is easily accessible by Public transit; you can put your bike on the bus and have a Day in the Park.
This type of day, may not be exciting enough for some of you fast paced types but for an older retired person or a person with young children, or a person who wants to slow down---one can feel life more when it slowly goes by and you will
