questions about Denver
My partner and I are making serious considerations about moving to the Denver area. The job I am interviewing for is in Wheat Ridge. We are a gay couple and are looking for an area that supports that lifestyle, leans towards the liberal and has an overall friendly population. Our main concern is the traffic in Denver as I have heard it can be quite bad. We would also like to know areas of Denver that are not too far of a drive from Wheat Ridge, yet are fairly safe. I have heard that Denver has these attributes, but I know the best people to ask are those that live there or have lived there recently. Any information you can provide would b appreciated. Thank you.

I think Denver is friendly & welcoming
How much of a commute are you willing to accomodate? Are you looking for new or older? What other features should your community have?

I don't really want a long commute. Actually, my partner dislikes driving so that is more important to her than me. I use to drive in Dallas and although the older I get the less I like a long commute, I can tolerate it more. We are looking for a community that is gay friendly. We are less "family" oriented than some people as neither of us have children and we don't plan on it. We love the older homes and the character that comes with them and we also want a place where we can feel safe. Thank you for your feedback. Renee

What do you consider long? Whether an neighborhood is gay friendly, I do not have any info on that. Newer communities tend to have new residents, and not long established neighbors.
I would bet the Jeffco sherrif's dept and the Denver County Police would have info on "hate" crimes.
I personally do not care about anyone's race/age/preferences...many educated humans share my views here.
Maybe you could spend some time here before/after your interview and explore.

It's a very open city, so you have nothing to worry about. There are all kinds of people there. I loved living there when I did. I hope to move back at some point.

There are 57 active properties on the market today, not including new homes, at least 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, average sq ft 2871, average price per sq foot is $142. It is a buyers market!
Douglas County schools are year round. There are some elementary schools in HR on the conventional calendar. My 5th grader starts school today.

That is much less expensive than I anticipated! Very good to know. What is a good, large, local real estate firm in the Denver area? I can always run searches through their website.
