So I went to the Denver Public Library downtown for the first time this last weekend. All I can say is wow, what an impressive facility! If you haven't been there, it's worth checking out.

once you have been; you'll go back.

It's like you are used to a functional doublewide; and you go see a beautiful castle...

that's for sure. I'm a library freak, I can spend days there. Someone told me they finally implemented WiFi, that really completes the place!!

DPL also has some great branch libraries as well. It's great to live in a city that has an excellent library system.

It really is incredible and have to agree with Audie, so are the branches. Several of them were donations by the Andrew Carnegie family and are still standing and used as libraries. Even the original central library is still in Civic Center park on the northwest corner. It is just too small but it may eventually house the Colorado Historical Musuem as an entrance to the underground facility.

The really nice thing about the Denver Public Library system is that they are on a share system with the Colorado Colleges and Universities libraries. If you don't find what you want in the main system you can search other library systems.

DPL has a very impressive collection, I must say, and thankfully it's available to any resident of Colorado, not just if you live in the city of Denver. Their technical book collection is up-to-date and comprehensive.

You can use their online system to find the books you want, and then have them sent to any DPL branch you care to, and there are dozens of them. And I think it's not an exaggeration to say that practically everyone in Denver city limits is within walking distance of a DPL branch.

The really nice thing about the Denver Public Library system is that they are on a share system with the Colorado Colleges and Universities libraries. If you don't find what you want in the main system you can search other library systems.
The other nice thing about the share system is that it links other area public library systems together as well - Arapahoe County, Aurora, Jefferson County, Boulder, Broomfield, Louisville, Lafayette, Poudre River (Fort Collins) in addition to the University Libraries. That means all of the districts listed above have the same capability to search these catalogs as their own. Denver's collection is strong in music so I can get full access to their collection at my local Southglenn branch (Arapahoe County has really invested a lot of money into building some nice new branches) in the Arapahoe County District. It's too bad the Denver branches are closed so many days of the week - most are closed 2-3 days. I'm glad to see they have the Central Branch open 7 days again. I thought it was closed 2 days a week for a while? Didn't make sense to me to close down the crown jewel of your libraries. Too bad the patrons of Denver libraries don't take better care of the items since they're a share resource. Most items I get from Denver have missing covers, inserts, cracked cases, torn pages, spills. Most of the items from the other libraries in the system are intact and not damaged.
