For intellectual culture, a much more stimulating place is NYC.
Sounds like you hung around the people that your worked with - must have been military/government. DC metro is made up of much more than just military/government. I admit, government/military dominates, but there's a lot more to DC than just that. Otherwise I'd be out of here if it was just what you mention. I'm still here because the area offers much more than what you mention. Thanks.

Biggest thing is DC makes Denver feel like Casper Wyoming or even smaller than that.

swishplace is on a distinguished road
i'm going through some older posts here... my cousin lives in denver and loves it, so it's really "to each his own". for me, the dc "area" (not just referring to the city proper) may not be spectacular at anything, but i love that there are so many options. you really do get a little taste of everything, from the seafood to the culture to the seasons to the beaches to the sports, etc. long story short, i've realized that i put a premium on options (even if some aren't necessarily "great" options) and that's why i prefer dc over denver, and over most cities that i've visited so far.
