Ever heard of a bus-jacking? LOL! (This is a joke!)
Seriously, OP, there is no need to worry about car jackings here.

Good advice from the previous posts - If you prefer not to go the club route, you might want to check out this site: http://www.denvergov.org and click on their 2008 Denver neigborhood crime rate reports.
To check out overall neighborhood flavors go to:

Good luck with your move (and with your car)!!

I think I've read about three carjackings in the past year. Two in Stapleton/NE Park Hill, the other at the corner of Morrison and W. Alameda (dude was stabbed in the face). Car jackings are not very common around, and like others have said, you have nothing to worry about.

There was the one carjacking in Stapleton (technically at least outside of the Walmart) -- in which they took the car with the guys friend in the back seat and shot him further down the road. I should check up on that one and see what the real story was. The other shooting you are thinking of happened around that same time wherein the story changed a bit over time but it appeared more likely that she was an intended shooting victim.

Ha, sorry. I guess I didn't mean "carjackings" specifically. You guys are right, no one is gonna throw me out of my '95 Honda Civic while I'm driving down the street! I'm just worried about parking on the street and it getting broken in to in the middle of the night. That happened to me when I lived in downtown Portland several years ago. It was very upsetting.

Carjacking? Carry a pistol in your vehicle...don't even need a CCW permit according to state laws.
Car theft? Nothing will stop a good thief...a club is a joke, more for peace of mind than actual security. Car alarm? If it goes off it'll just notify you that your car may be leaving soon...better than a club though. Pain generators (small 120dB horns that are mounted in your vehicle's cabin, hard to jack a car when your ear drums are tearing apart) in tandem with a car alarm? Better Garage? Best...and a removable steering wheel

All the areas, the OP is looking to live is in the middle of Denver. There is good public transportation. The city is safe and people are friendly.
To avoid all the problems with the car--sell it, go car free.

Bull---Denver is very safe and relatively crime free. Mugging is very rare. I know because I have walked, biked and taken public transit all over this city---no problems in all the years I have been here. Now I am older and disabled and I hobble all over and still no problems, even though I am more at risk.
I am an ex New Yorker and I can tell Denver is a very easy place to live and with low stress. So, lift your eyes, and look around, smile, and you will

Denver is pretty low crime, but I will say that in Capitol Hill, at least, car break-ins are not uncommon. Most of the time, it's because someone left something valuable in the car in plain sight, and someone manages to get in and swipe it off the seat while nobody is looking. Or someone left their door unlocked.
Make sure you lock your car doors. And don't leave your ipod/cellphone/laptop or whatever on your car seat while you're gone. Better avoid getting any type of expensive car stereo, either.
I've never personally had a car break-in, and I've lived in several different places within the city of Denver. I've known others who have though.

Live fearfully! j/k---It was meant as sarcasm, although I know the internet has deadened our senses to catch that. I'll try to be more literal next time.
