Denver - Car Jackings / Auto Thefts ??
So I'm moving to Denver in September or early October. I recently read that my car, the 1995 Honda Civic is among, if not the, most stolen car in America! I've always known Honda's are easy to steal for some reason... what are the odds it's my car to the year?!?
Anyways, I've been looking at the Capitol Hill, Baker, City Park areas. Can anyone tell me if these are bad areas when it comes to car jackings?
My plan is to buy a club and a car alarm and just cross my fingers nothing will happen. I'm also looking at apartments/houses with driveways so I don't have to park on the street at night.
Can anyone tell me which neighborhoods in Denver are most prevalent with car jackings? I definitely want to live near downtown. What areas should I be looking for the safety of my vehicle? Anything else I can do besides keep valuables out of the vehicle?

I do not live in Denver, but I can give some relevant information. Your odds of getting car jacked for that car are low. Those cars are super easy to steal and the parts are valuable. However, professional thieves are not going to risk car jacking it. They will steal it when it is parked. Your best bet is to get full coverage insurance with low deductibles, or put on a removable steering wheel.

Are you serious?
Not to be a dick but:
1. I can't recall the last time there was a reported car jacking in Denver.
2. Car theft and car jackings are two different things. I seriously, seriously doubt anyone is going to be looking to car jack a 14 year old economy car.
Car theft has as its primary reasons ease of theft and ease of parting out. The Civic of your generation fit well into categories. Car Jacking on the other hand is a means to acquire a car you desire very easily. Does someone out there desire afformentioned used economy Civic? Maybe.
3. The areas you mentioned? They are all downtown.

I don't think it's something you really have to worry about, but if it does make you feel safer, buy a club.

Actually, if you are being actively carjacked, there is no time to put the club on. So you really are screwed. I suggest riding a bike, but you may get bikejacked. I guess best take public transportation. Just don't look at any Denverites straight in the eye, they may mug you.

LOL. good point. I guess the club could always be used as a weapon in the event of a carjacking?

Really Denver is not notorious for carjackings. You seem to have some very good precautionary plans, but I think your car will be safe. It is true the neighborhoods you are looking at are in the downtown area - which is an active, fun area to live in.

I wouldn't worry about carjackings at all. (By the way, this means that someone forcefully removes you from your car and steals it.)
Someone stealing your parked car might be more of a concern, but I think a club should definitely ease your mind. I don't know anyone who lives in Denver who bothers with a club. (In Boston, everyone I knew had them.)

Try calling your auto insurance provider and see if your rates go up or down when moving here relative to the risk of auto theft. They'll probably say that Denver isn't a problem and that your rates will go down.
