Minnesota --> Denver (Congress Park? Jobs?) (Craig: apartment, rental)

Hey all! My fiance and I are moving to Denver from the Twin Cities at the end of the summer. We're sick of the -30 winters and hear that Minneapolis and Denver are very similar. I also grew up in Denver and have very fond memories of Colorado.

We found an apartment in the Congress Park area - Colorado Blvd and Colfax right across from the University of Colorado Hospital. It sounds like this is a pretty decent area although Colfax may seem kind of sketchy.

We are both in our 20s and are looking to be close to downtown. Is this a good area to live? We have friends in the Uptown area and Wash Park so this seems like a good central area.

Luckily, I have a job where I can work from home when we first move there but I'll eventually be looking for a new corporate job in Denver. Any suggestions for Denver marketing or PR jobs other than Craigslist or Monster.com? The fiance is going to be looking for any business management or HR jobs as well.

I also saw the Happy Hour thread - hopefully we'll be able to meet some of you there in the near future.

Any feedback/thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Congress Park is a good neighborhood, one of my personal favorites in Denver. I wouldn't worry too much about "Colfax" -- most of the bad reputation there is a bit out of date, and there are advantages to being close to Colfax (great amenties, good transit), although, you probably don't want to live right on Colfax if you can help it.

My experience is that Congress Park north of 13th Ave or so is more rental oriented than further south, which is not necessarily a bad thing considering that you're renting!

One other nice thing is that you're definitely not lacking for park facilities. Not only the namesake Congress Park, but you're very close to City Park as well as Cheesman Park.

Really, if anybody thinks colfax is bad then they ought not live in a big city. Maybe they ought to live in a gated community with Earl the security guard a phone call away...
